Does the DAB-connection of a Columbus I / RNS510 supply phantom power?

Featured Replies

I want to upgrade my Superb 2 Combi with a DAB capable Columbus, so I also need a DAB antenna. Most (all?) of the active antenna's I find expect phantom power via the antenna lead, but does a Columbus supply power via the DAB antenna connection?

Does anybody know that?

Any tips regarding the best antenna are also welcome! (To make this more complicated: My car has a heated windscreen, so I probably have to stick the DAB antenna to one of the rear side windows, next to the existing FM antenna.)

Just fitted a DAB unit in my Jetta and I used one of these (but not from him, from another supplier).

Only issue I had was it comes with a straight Fakra connector which was too long to go in correctly and the unit wouldn't go back far enough. I cut it off and fitted an angled connector instead. I get fairly good reception and it sits at the top of the windscreen nearly out of sight. Perhaps won't do for you with a heated screen though.

Thanks. Did you happen to measure the phantom voltage on the DAB connector? Since there seem to be +5V and +12V antennas around, and nobody can tell me which voltage a Columbus supplies.

D'y'know, I didn't. However, I have a DAB Columbus in the workshop, and I could measure the voltage for you tomorrow when I get time.

Just been and checked. it's reading 12v (well, 11.8v)
