Identifying hatchback boot wiring

Featured Replies

Hi.

After recently having my mark 1 estate written off (grrrr!), I'm now transferring the towbar across to a hatchback.

I've got vehicle specific towbar wiring, so most of the wiring simply piggy backs with the existing wiring. My issue is with the required 12v supply. The estate had a 12v socket in the boot which the towbar wiring plugged into, the hatchback doesn't have this. Whilst rummaging in the boot I found this:

There's something here bundled up. Is it possibly the end of the loom which would have been used on estate cars for the 12v socket in the boot?

Of no relation to the towbar, I also found:

There's more blanked off wires here. As I have the poverty spec Classic Octavia with a single boot light, would this wire have been used to carry on to the other side of the boot for a second light?

Finally, what's this on the drivers side of the boot?

In your first photo it looks like all the brown wires (neg return) have been joined together in a screwit or crimp connection to a single brown wire taken to the dedicated ground stud on the body.

In the third photo you are looking at the fuel flap release solenoid. Note how easy it is to replace by just loosening the screws.

For the 12V feed to the trailer you need to run a 20 A cable from the fuse box at the drivers end of the dash. It needs to be this size to run a fridge etc etc.

Thanks so much for your reply, much appreciated.

I'm not great with colours and had not spotted that all of those wires in the bundle in the first picture are brown. And now you tell me, it's obvious that the other wiring is for the fuel flap release!

So I could add the following to the fusebox in the empty towbar fuse point and run a 20 A cable to the boot - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Add-A-Circuit-Fuse-Holder-Standard-20amp/dp/1550063146 - ideal.

Thanks again,

Roo.
