MOT failure on Rear shock and out CV Boot

Featured Replies

Hi folks

The old girl has just failed an MOT Today on a leaking rear shock and a near side outer CV boot.

The CV boot was replaced by a local garage about 6 weeks ago and it failed straight away, they sorted it and today it was noted that it had failed again on the MOT. The MOT station noted it was a pattern part and that they aren't that great... so firstly, where should I source a genuine outer CV boot for a 56 plate vRS and is it easy enough to do myself incase I just decide to fix it myself?

Also it has failed on a leaking rear shocker, can anyone advise on a decent rear shock that won't break after 6 weeks and that won't break the bank?

Cheers

Genuine Skoda CV boot for vRS http://www.skodaparts.com/product/fabia-outer-cv-boot-2000-2007-vrs-model-34971

You will need a 36mm 12-point socket for the driveshaft nut. Some 36 mm sockets will not fit if the socket wall is too thick. I got around it by taking some metal off the outside of the socket with a grinder.

You should really replace dampers in pairs. Sachs are pretty good.

Take the car back to the damn garage and INSIST they replace the CV boot with a genuine one, tell them you'll pay for the part if they sort the labour.

Get a pair of Bilstein B4 rear dampers and fit them yourself, it's VERY easy.

Cheers guys, Yeah I am pretty pee'd off about the CV boot but I've kind of lost confidence with them...

Its looking like we'll not have the car for too much longer (sadly) so I don't really want to spend Bilstein B4 money on some shocks ta.

They're CHEAP!

Replace the cv boot as soon as you can, otherwise you'll need to replace the cv.

Is the garage just being picky, knowing they can push the boot back on and put a proper clip on it or somthing?

seems strange for a brand new one to split after a few weeks, even a cheap after market one should last a while!

Ive seen a few of them have just came loose or been cable tied in place so when you go on full lock they just pop off.
