Quick Help Needed - Buying a Superb (merged)

Featured Replies

Hi Folks, I should really have got off my butt and posted sooner, but I'm going to look at a couple of Superbs today. Is there anything in particular I need to watch out for?

First up is a 2002 52 Reg Skoda Superb 1.8 20v T Comfort (6,613 miles ex-demo)

Then a 2003 03 Reg SKODA Superb 1.9 TDI PD 130 Comfort (27,800 miles)

Both being bought from dealers, the first being Skoda themselves. Both marked at £9995

I have a 52 Octavia Sdi Classic (36,700 miles) to trade in.

Leaving in an hour.

Thanks! :D

Buy the diesel!!!

Cheaper to run , and I think it suits the Superb more than the 1.8t , plus the ex-demo petrol will have been abused and thrashed everywhere.

Yep the oil burner for me too. Good mileage and what seems to be a fair price.

The petrol has a very low mileage which might indicate lots of short journeys and being ex demo probably by less than careful drivers.

Service history is paramount so that would be a good check to make.

None that I can think of - other than you not buying these and buying a new one! and spending more money than you bargained for.

Only things I can think of

1. Boot may be stiff to rasie when opened, can be sorterd to an aceptable level with 3 in 1 oil than new hinges.

2. Check for tyre condition - they can be expensive to replace.

3. Check for damage to dash by aftermarket mobile fitment removal.

4. Check front ash tray opens and closes OK - this is quite common

Thanks

Yep, the 1.8t in the Superb is underpowered for the style of car it is. Diesel is the better bet of your 2 choices.

Okay, the Deisel it is. :) Saved me a journey to Edinburgh.

p.s. Sorry about the double post mr Admin, can we merge the threads?

I'm sure one of them will be along soon once they wake up :D

And it appears that they have done :D

Saved me a journey to Edinburgh.

Hehehe , let me know how you get on

Keep an open mind though and don't buy in haste.

Have you read the recent Top Gear report?

SSSSSSSSSssssssswwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettttt!!! ;)

Wooo fricken hoo! :D

Very nice indeed.

Nice one Aaron - Didn't take you long to strike a deal.

And it just occurred to me that thats one of each model you've owned.

Bet this feels like a big step up from the furby and octy :)

Congrats on your Superb. As an owner of a Titan Grey Superb too, may I welcome you into an elite group of people who drive a colour that attracts dirt in a way no other car can, even my black car looked clean at the side of it. It looks fab when it's clean but you are going to have so much fun keeping it that way!!! It's still my fave colour though. Have fun.

We were at the garage for two hours while I got soaked in the rain poking about inside and out. We even moved the little little-un's baby seat over to see how it would fit the Superb - no probs there, much easier to install due to the living room sized rear of the cabin. I'm not one for doing a lot of haggling when it comes to cars. If the price is fair and the motor is minted I'll pay up. It was and it is. I was offloading a well used and recently accident damaged, Octavia SDi so I sucked up their offer. It feels like a step, nay a whole flight of steps up from the bare essentials SDi Octy, but I still miss my Furby. :D

Excellent.

I look forward to having a nose at this one at some point in the future.

Nice one on the purchase

Bet my Superb looks dirtier than yours

It's white!! :(

As nice as it looks in white, a local taxi company have them, I didn't want to buy one after having a silver Octy at the same time as the taxi co's silver Octy fleet. We kept getting flagged down driving through town.

Luckily for me I am actually a taxi driver!! I dont really like the car in white though to be honest, it's not the most flattering of colours, dark blue or dark green look awesome and black is pretty good too.

Local council have just changed the policy where I live though, my next car will have to be silver which is much nicer looking than white.

All done' date=' I pick up my metallic grey 1.9 TDi 130 next Saturday. :D :D :D

Well done Aaron, welcome to the club.

I have no doubt that you will not regret it at all. In fact, anything other than a motorhome will feel cramped in comparision!:D

Use the force Luke, the temptation to modify is strong on this site.

All the Best
