MIB1 Columbus SD-Card 2 Restarts from beginning each KeyOn

Featured Replies

I have a Columbus MIB1 unit in my vRS.

I'm playing music from an SD-card in slot 2.

Each morning when I come to the car, it starts playing from slot2 but from the first track instead of the 2nd or 3rd album I reached last time i was driving.

Playing from slot1 doesn't do this, it remembers correctly the last track that was playing & continues.

Anyone else have this or know of a firmware update to address this?

What firmware version are you currently on?

I have H42 hardware & 0292 software.

It came as built from Jan 2014 & hasn't been updated since I've had it.

Do you want to update the firmware?

Is it possible without any special tools? (I assume any OBD scan tool can clear the error codes after the update or do I need VCDS?)

I was hoping to convince the dealer to do it for me when it goes for its service next month.

This issue plus the increase bass/middle are the main updates I'm looking for.

Ill PM you

Hi Andyvee,

Having similar probs on my Columbus unit here in AU and my HW version is H43 & SW is 0371.

Do you recommend doing a firmware update too to resolve the issue?

If so, could you kindly share details on how to do it? Or is this something only dealers with their tools can do?

Thanks!!!

@Gabbo, did upgrading to 0390 fix yours?

The fact that 0371 is doing it is a little concerning.

I didnt upgrade it yet because I was going to try to get it officially when it goes for its service in December.

This actually started to happen after the recent map update (at least I think, because I didnt have the Skoda for 2 months before i did that).

However, before the update I was also using 2 SD-cards (32Gb and 4Gb) without problems.

I always use SD2 as a way to trial new music before I copy it to the main card.

The only difference is now I have 2x 32Gb cards (instead of the 4Gb one).

One thing which crossed my mind was that the update has left some residual files on the SD-cards so perhaps this causes the problem.

I will do some checking tonight & report back.

Yesterday I had my Columbus updated again by the dealer, this time to 0411 firmware which is the latest & greatest I'm aware of for MIB1.

I still have the same problem (mp3s always start from the first track on the card, not the last track that was playing).

It does it now for music from both SD-Cards and also a USB Stick.

The dealer is a bit stumped what to try next.

I've tried 3 different brands of SD-Card (San Disk, San Disk Pro & Transcend) with 2 sizes (32Gb & 4gb) + 4Gb Kingston Datatraveller Stick.

I've tried formatting NTFS or FAT32 with no change.

I've tried just adding 1 new album (never before used in the car) on 1 card & still the same problem.

If I soft reset the Columbus holding the power button then the music starts correct from where it left off the last time I started.

So it does remember the last track but for some reason restarts from the 1st track each time.

Anyone else have the same problem?

Lucki, did you find a solution?

Stupid question, you don't have the write protect tab set do you?

Usually devices like this would place a file on the card to state what file was last open and at what point it last played.

If it can't create the file due to the write protection then it'll just start from the beginning.

None of the cards are write-protected nor the USB key.

I am going to try to copy the music to the harddrive & see if the same problem occurs there.

After some  investigation now I hve the car back on a daily basis I have determined I have the same behaviour with both SD-cards & the USB input.

However, the same problem is not seen when playing the internal jukebox.

I commented in one of my earlier posts the issue started after I updated the maps but I dissmissed this as a cause because I couldnt see any link between map data & mp3 selection.

However, I have recently updated the maps again to the 2017/2018 version from the Skoda website & the issue has 90% dissapeared.

Now 9/10 times I return to the car, the song continues from the correct place.

It is not completely fixed as the now dredded ACDC gong comes occaisonally but definately not as bad as it was.
