Superb much bigger in the back than an Octavia?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just had my second child and as I am a lanky bugger I am struggling to get comfortable in my octavia with the 2 car seats in.

Was toying with a superb estate, and seen some very interesting lease deals.

Are they much bigger in the back than an Octavia?  Boot looks loads bigger but rear legroom is hard to judge...

If everyone is positive about it I'll get myself down the dealers to have a look (which is a bit of a trek!)

Thanks

GB

Eerm just a bit!

The rear legroom is one thing nobody can accuse any of the Superbs of lacking!

Huge difference.

Missus has the current Octavia, had a Superb 2 Combi & im waiting on a new Superb, so believe me, the difference is HUGE! no having someone poking their knees or feet in the back of your seat while you're driving, & i'm 6ft 1" . Superb all the way!

cheers all, thats what I had heard, just wanted to check with the experts.  Reckon I need a trip to the dealers!

Are the front seats much different to those in an Octavia?  I don't find them particularly comfortable, they are just a bit too small for my big ass (not that I am fat you understand :) )

I'm 6'4" and when driving tother half has a clear 6" of knee room behind my seat! We went for the Superb as it was the only car we could fit the new iSize spec (rear facing mandatory EU spec) child seats into and still allow me to comfortable drive the car with the front seat in the right place.

i have a Mk3 Octavia and was given a superb as a loan car and there is much more leg room in the back the boot looks bigger but when i put my son's bmx bike in it, it fitted the same as in the octavia, The bike fits in the boot diagonally with maybe 1 inch more space on the diagonal in the superb vs the octavia,

So i would say there is a marginal increase in width between the two but the wheel base is definitely longer than the octavia.

That's exactly the same reason we've ordered one ^

Thanks everyone, gives me a bit more confidence I should make the trip to the dealers then...

Apart from the increase in legroom and overall space, the Superb will be a more comfortable car overall especially on long journeys, better damped, more refined, less noise intrusion etc.  I do find the seats much more comfortable and supportive in the Superb compared to any versions of the Octavia.  The seats in the new Superb (from what I have briefly seen) are slightly better again, as long as you avoid the cloth option as those seats are not quite as supportive in the MKIII IMO.

I did my legroom test in a mk 3 at the main dealers today. I am 6'2" tall and 18 stone so comfort is important to me. I test a car by setting the drivers seat to a comfortable position then jump in the back to see if I can comfortably sit 'behind myself'  Pleased to report that the mk3 seems to have the same excellent amount of legroom as the mk2. Sitting in the rear I had a full three inches in front of my knees which should be enough for anyone.

Also consider that when they move from a rear facing seat to a forward facing seat, space is less of an issue.

Those rear facing seats take up so much room, especially the isofix versions.

The Superb II is palatial for four people(and their luggage)  but less so for five because of the width and the large transmission tunnel - I've not tried the MK III yet. This makes it ideal for us as I'm just under 6ft 4" (I've shrunk) and my son is taller than me now and still likes coming with us on holiday (free to him!) sometimes bringing a friend!

However one thing I've found with the later VAG range of 5dr cars OTHER than the Superb/ & larger Audi -  the door pillar seems larger and further forward than earlier versions.  As I'm quite tall and like a "relaxed" driving position the door pillar obstructs my vision badly and the door arm rest is too far forward which means my elbow bangs into the pillar and I end up twisting to get comfortable - which breaks my back!!  Before I chose the Superb I tried the Octavia III and the latest Leon.

Bizarrely my old MKI Octavia (arm rest fine, door pillar still in vision but not as bad) and  Citigo are OK for me.

Well I've continued my research and had a look at both mk2 and Mk3 Superbs and yes they are huge inside!

think I am pretty much sold on getting one now.  But interestingly I will only get one with electric adjustable seats.  The standard seats didn't feel very comfortable for my 6ft5 frame but the extra adjust ability of electric seats made things much better...

Next tricky decision is keep budget low and get a cheap Mk2 hatch, up the budget and get an estate, or wait for the terrible lead times and lease a mk3.

If anyone is thinking of selling a DSG Superb then let me know!

In Mk2 guise - estate is better looking than the hatch.

In Mk2 guise - estate is better looking than the hatch.

Totally agree but I can get a hatch for about 4k less which is a lot of cash!
