AFS/Light Assist/Dynamic Light Assist?

Featured Replies

I think the simplest way to check if you have the correct lights fitted is to watch what happens when you start the car when its dark. The headlight do what I can only describe as a little dance and you can see the beam going left to right and up and down (did a similar thing on my old Insignia elite which had similar auto main beam and light shaping).

Then you need to have the headlights on "Auto" on the right hand side rotary dial and the top stalk on the left hand side of the steering wheel needs to be pushed away from you so you get the "A" and "headlight symbol" in the dot matrix display. That should work if you have paid the £100 for the Smart light Asssist on the L&K.

Currently I have to engage it every time i start up as it drops out when you turn the ignition off but I  haven't gone through the manual to see if I can have it as a default setting.

I hope all of the above is correct but happy to be corrected.

Well, here goes (just to keep you happy  :D)...

The start-up "beam dance" is a function of the AFS which is standard on all Bi-Xenon equipped Superb II & III, regardless of any Assist.

It serves little function other than to let you know the AFS motors work. On the Superb II this could be disabled in maxidot, but I haven't found anywhere where it can be disabled in the Superb III.

You'll notice it only does the dance when stationary. It will stop if you move before it completes the cycle.

I have noticed, however, that during the beam dance there is a square area in the centre of the beam pattern that appears blanked.

Without comparing it to a Light Assist or non-Assist equipped Superb I can't say whether or not that is due to the presence of Smart Light Assist.

If you have Light Assist or Dynamic Light Assist then flicking the lighting stalk forward once activates it and you get the "A" headlamp symbol in maxidot.

A second flick forward on the stalk deactivates the Assist and switches to "normal" main beam.

From either the Assist or normal main beam, a single flick back returns you to dipped beam.

The quickest way to tell if you have Light Assist or Smart Light Assist should be to look in the infotainment CAR>Settings>Light menu.

If the first entry is "Dynamic Light Assist" then you've got Smart Light Assist.

Neither the Light Assist or Smart Light Assist can be set to be permanently "switched on".

The Assists can be enabled/disabled in the Light menu. If disabled the lighting stalk functions as expected, flick forward for main beam, flick back to return to dipped beam.

Just had a look at mine today when collecting the wife's new Fabia estate and it does have the dynamic one (as it has the 7 led lashes) so looks like PNG is correct, even on the early demo models.

I've just taken delivery of my SE business estate, the brochure detailed "light assist" and the manual details this as the auto on/off of the main beam. I was expecting this function but it's not on my car.

Anyone got an SE business that can check if they have this functionality or not?

The dealer is checking whether it should have it or whether it's just another poor description in the skoda brochures.

Just got my S3 back from the Dealer after the fuse board recall check. The order says the Dynamic Light Assist should be fitted to the car, but it doesn't appear to be. Smart Assist is definitely there and works, though it can be very slow to respond in full dark conditions. A case has been raised with Skoda UK to find out just what is going on. I have definitely been charged for it and it's on the order as well as the factory spec sheet the dealer has, but it isn't actually there, or doesn't appear to be.

The Master Tech keeps talking about it only working with the lights on manual (really?) but has no idea why the option doesn't appear in any of the menus...so my faith in him is not exactly at an all time high, and he's been on a course and knows all about it so there!

It's beginning to sound like a factory balls up.

Just a quick devation from the this tread, with regards to the Fuse board recall, have you any information on this, is it the fuse board in the engine compartment or the one behind the glove box, I am sure many will be interested to know.

Lets hope so for your sake  'cos then you could perhaps get a retrofit at Skoda cost (ca £1500 allegedly). Will watch with interest as mine is exactly the same. Paid for dynamic but only got the standard light assist.

If yours turns out to be a factory error then mine is likely the same.

Only issue I then have is that as the car wasn't my original order I dont have proof of what was ordered by the dealer. I just agreed to a car already ordered elsewhere in the group and paid for smart assist (£100 option).

Perhaps the Rosso paintwork on our cars blinded the techs at the factory :D

Good luck with it.

You're not the first to get charged for this option and not get it, there seems to have been a few cases before including my car!

Seems it is a mix up at the factory problem is the option is not fitable after the car has been built so if you don't have it then nothing can be done. I got a £250 payment from the dealer to compensate.

My dealer told me that it could possibly be acheived technically but it means replacement headlamp units at ca £400 each plus possibly some wiring (but they were not sure about that) and then coding. Add the labour to that and you have a 'not possible' scenario--------phew.

However, if there are enough of us around then maybe we can put pressure on Skoda? Long shot maybe but let's see what comes from Felis B
