New Nissan headlights

Featured Replies

Bit irrelevant to me as I have Led's but recently I've noticed a fair number of new shape Quasqi and Pulsar models seem to have quite bright white/blue headlights. Not Xenons as no washers fitted and will not be Led either.

Just wondered what Nissan are hitting as other manufacturers are still fitting very yellow bulbs.

Are you sure they are not led , the top models have them , Led cars do not need washers

I guess they might but look to have projector lenses.

Not all xenons need washers.

Only do if they have an output greater than 2000 lumens iirc

Might be LED though. The 2015 GTR gets LED headlights, xenon on the previous years. Maybe the rest of the range is following that.

I edited first post , we are getting a top model Renault Kadjar as the wife's car , that has super bright double LEDs and no washers

The current model Qashqai Tekna gets Bi-LED headlights and LED DRL's.

The Visia, N-Tec and N-Tec+ models get standard halogens behind projector lenses and the LED DRL's.

I would imagine that it would be relatively easy for manufacturers to add a blue tint to the projector lenses so that the standard yellow halogen bulbs behind them look more modern and more desirable as a result? Much like those aftermarket / Halfords 'xenon-look' bulbs with the blue tips on the glass?

Essentially filtering out light though. So the usable light is much less.

So they arent as good for the driver to actually see where theyre going.

SWMBO just bought a newish one.

Yes they have DRLs which are LED and very blue, more noticeable when non-Xenon lights are on next to them. Looks a bit gash imho but don't tell SWMBO I said that.

I had a 20min 'conversation' just last night to explain why she couldn't turn off her DRLs.

My fault apparently.

Can you not actually disable them for her, and put a sticker in an obvious place reminding her to switch the headlights and sidelights on?

I hate rear LED brake lights. It's blinding at night when people insist on keeping their foot on the brake in traffic.

The ability for the customer / owner to disable DRL's via an internal switch / menu selection is now becoming a thing of the past.

Still possible on a number of older models that were on the cross over with DRL legislation including a number of Skoda's.

I beleive any car fitted with DRL's should also have auto lights as standard.

Passed a Range Rover Evoque last night in the pitch black. Superbright LED DRL's in the headlights throwing out enough light to see (and to be fair to be seen) from the front but as it passed me it became invisible - no rear illumination at all.

The ability to remove Bulbs or DRL lights by physically removing them is not beyond the wit of man or woman luckily.

Type Approved cars after Feb 2011 have to have them fitted by the Manufacturers but there is no requirement to have them operating.

It'll be difficult when they are individual LED's incorporated into the headlight.

The only way to disable them will be to code them out or to physically cut a wire.

Not something I'd recommend anyone do to a modern car.

My advice would be to wait for the 'DRL & all-things-modern haters' to catch-up.

Covering them with black tape should also be discouraged  :D

Half covering Fabia Mk2 vRS DRL's that are disabled but still are very bright as sidelights can be recommended though.

Live and let live, and give less annoyance to other drivers.

I saw a new Mazda CX3 the other week which had LED headlights when walking my dog.

They were super bright, and appeared to be projecting daylight in front of the car.

Better than any xenon setup I've seen before.

Agreed, but in an auto, the only way to engage the stop/start feature is to keep your foot on the brake.
