"Diesel's where dropping before the VW troubles, loads of reasons plus petrol prices are dropping below Diesel again. As for my dealer he said it's across all makes no just VAG and showed me the guide, and gave me the top price plus a fair bit over". .............has it ever occurred that the salesman could be a lying b*****d it has been known!and if that was the case would he be prepared to offer you a massive discount on a new showroom diesel as they have dropped that much, sounds to me like an old trick and taking advantage of the present situation created by VAG.

  • And the most important point is it's your money and you are very happy with a deal that you made and will have a few more years in a car that clearly you have been very happy with.   Enjoy!!

  • The only fault for me with the 1.4Tsi with 4 wheel drive is they do not do it with the DSG box. Tony

I have one big advantage over you I know the person well, done all 4 yeti deals with him since 2009, plus all book prices shown to me in black and white. :wall:

As for a big discount on a Diesel not going to help I don't need a Diesel that's the reason for going for a petrol,  :hi:

Couldn't agree more, it's the same as others moving away from the yeti or Skoda it's their hard worked for and their choice, they are happy so be it.

if I had left it till march to look at a new one they say it could drop by another 2-3k, :o

or is that just a sales ploy to pressure you into changing now?

or is that just a sales ploy to pressure you into changing now?

Yep!

Only slightly off topic but subject already raised and having never towed a caravan but I understand the need for a high torque diesel with much low down power when pulling today's larger van (was going to say flow blockers)but didn't want to upset, I just wonder how people managed years ago when most petrol cars had under 70 BHP and a very similar amount of torque must have been bit of a mare up long hills?

must have been bit of a mare up long hills?

Now where could you possibly have got that idea from young man?

^^^^^^^ Your so sweet,Freddie ,I realise it was difficult but was looking for personal experiences as I have never towed a van.

I suspect caravans back then were not like houses on wheels so were rather lighter.

OP congratulations on your 4th Yeti. :)

In the past caravans were lighter than now, since they didn't have all the internal "luxury" items we now insist upon.

Our first van had no hot water, no internal toilet, no electric lights and no electric water pump, and I towed it with a 1300 Marina, but I would also be down to second gear on some hills and would rarely ever get to 50 mph.

I think that may explain some of the anti caravan sentiment!

But it was also 30 years ago!

How can this be pressuring me into changing, I went to them when they had some offers on and took advantage of it,  if I thought they were taking the p--- I would have walked away.

Thanks BossFox good to see your still posting here one of the few originals left here

I have been driving -passed my test in 1970- long enough to have suffered from the need to try to pass roadblocks like that! and was then trying to do it in similarly low powered machinery although nothing quite so wheezing and sluggish as a marina 1.3

Ouch

Depends whether they were telling you that before or after you signed on the dotted line.

Even if its after.. They still like to make you feel like youve had a bargain and done the right thing.

I struggle to listen to a word most salesman say without thinking more into it. I dont really believe much they tell me either, tbh.

Unfortunately I don't get into this Yeti part too often, mostly just updates on my rather nippy Yeti project thread.

But still about. :)

It's the death of a salesman if you give him a bad report.

You have to leave feeling you can't wait to deal with him again......it's all about the interweb

Hi wakev,

just caught up on this thread and pleased to here your getting another Yeti and a nice choice too.

Interesting to read some of the comments made here, as I went back to diesel for the pulling power, after finding in the 1.2 Tsi case, it really didn't have the 'legs' for the sort of long runs that I will do on holidays. Although I'm sure the 1.4 would be far better.

Also know from experience that cars can be worth a decent amount one minute and drop like a stone the next, with our last Yeti we traded it in at the beginning of the autumn season and just before the FL revision replaced the classic Yeti and got a decent trade in value for it. However by the time our Octy III factory order arrived, we were in the tail end of winter and the FL was on the market. So the dealer found our classic version took longer to sell and they ended up advertising it for less than they gave me for it. So I agree with wakev its all about timing, sometimes your lucky other times your not.

As a side note I've now been driving around in the V40 CC for 6 months/6k miles and I think I'd find it hard to go back to a current model Skoda as the main car from the comfort point of view, although switching to a petrol V40 Cross Country is not an affordable option; the only choice you have is a 254bhp 2.5T 4x4 (the only 4x4 in the range sadly).

Hi Tim

We find the Yeti very comfortable and HRH loves it, found that I can drive from here to Yorkshire and not have a bad back at the end :D .  The 110 is a nice engine but the daily drive that HRH has to do (lots of start stops) is not going to do the DPF & EGR any good so have been longing for a petrol 4x4, I think the new 1.4 with the power output it now has should be a nice drive.

The only thing being that it only comes as the L&K so lots of money, not really a fan of the sunroof but it is fitted so will have it and just get the drain tubes cleaned at every service, a few other options on it that I would not normally bother with but again fitted so may use them,  not having extra options fitted will I will not lose money on them this time and hopefully the petrol model will hold a little more value.

Good to hear you are finding the Volvo better on your back and are back to four driven wheels for your trip over the top of the world each day, Let me know how the cc tyres perform in the snow as I have give the dealer the choice of the vector 4 or the cc to be fitted on arrival, but I can specify which one is fitted.

How many Corgis does HRH have wakev........do they all go with he in yeti?.

Hi again wakev,

our Volvo sadly being a 1.6 Ford/PSA diesel is only 2wd but seems to cope well with muddy lanes etc. Came back earlier this evening from a trip to see a Bridge of Spies (recommended) in heavy rain and deep standing water, with temps hovering between 2 and 4 deg C and both Cross Country and Cross Climates performed as well as Hanks and Ryland, if not better  :D

If we get any white stuff I will indeed report back on the performance of the new boots.
