Mother of all Rattles - Octavia 4x4

Over the past month a number of rattles have been eliminated by changing front and rear anti roll bar bushes, front tie rods and one rear tie rod.

One rattle remained and it appeared to come from the rear near side area. Released the near side rear shock absorber and tie rod to find the threaded hole in the near side hub had assumed a non-circular shape and most threads had been flattened.

New tie rod and shock absorber were lined up and the fixing bolt failed to catch the remaining good thread.

With hindsight the off side threaded hole was in similar condition but had more useable thread.

Note Within the warranty period both rear tie rods were replaced by a Skoda Dealer. Releasing each shock absorber lower fixing bolt required leverage and effort.
