VRS mods

Featured Replies

So Far the spec of the vrs is lookin a bit drab... Ive fitted a forge recircualing DV, and there is a carbonia iduction system on its way from awesome gti and am away to fone star performance for a full set of samco hoses including the turbo induction pipe. Thats this months wages gone but the next 3-4 months i intend on at least fittin a miltec turbo back system and hpefully a forge intercooler. Then i'll get the whole thing remapped probably at star performance in fife. Im only looking for about 250bhp but has anyone had any experience with other bits and pieces that dont involve taking the head of or replacing the turbo? Has anyone got an uprated actuator for example?

Cheers Iain

sounds like your off to a good start... obviously there are lots of things you can continue to up grade...but you have the basics covered...250bhp with those mods is achiveable but dont be dissapointed if you fall short, it can vary from car to car...with out getting into the discussion of rolling road readings and what can vary them...

couldn't comment about actuator never done it...

I think you'll need to look at a change of cat as well.

Yeah the miltec has a high flow cat included. What about a boost controller? And although this has bugger all to do with power has anyone fitted a turbo timer to there octavia?

Clifford alarms can be fitted to work as turbo timers. A friend has one on his 1.8T golf.

TIP...Turbo Inlet Pipe.....should allows turbo to spin up quicker.

ABD do a direct replacement or Forge do a silicone pipe which replaces the whole arrangement from turbo to MAF housing.

Actuator...are you talking about the N75? Will allow turbo to spin up quicker...mine hit the boost limit very quickly.....wouldn't remap with a N75J though...makes engine very rough.

Changing boost and coolant pipes for silicone replacements are good...won't give you anything but will reduce boost drop due to heat.

You may also like to try the inlet manifold heat shield gasket....works on the principal of breaking the conductivity path to reduce the inlet temps. Obviously you'll have to take off the manifold to fit and it's probably advisable to get new bolts.

Turbo timers.....how much benefits are these in everyday driving....useful for track work but unless you rag the motor right up to your front door...I normally let the engine run a couple of minutes after driving....if engine is hot the fan will come on.

Which is better?

Which is better?

Forge Silicone TIP is a single pipe and will resist collapse better than the standard rubber MAF-TIP pipe.

The flip side it that it uses a jubilee clip to secure to the turbo inlet and this may require periodic tightening......it a real PITA to work round the turbo.

Where as the direct replacement is a single allen bolt job...tighten once...sorted.

You could possible jus thten replace the MAF-TIP rubber pipe with a sillicone item, although I'm not sure if any one does one.

Choice is yours. ;)

TIP - Does anyone know how much these are from Forge? i know Samco dont do them anymore. Do Jabba do the Forge ones or can Forge sell direct?

i have the power gasket on my vRS, i fit it when i put a polished inlet manifold on the car... you can tell the difference the gasket makes purely by the difference in the "to the touch" temps on the manifold itself after the engine has been run for a while. Taking the manifold off is a bit of a PITA though. i didnt fit new bolts either... you only have to be careful not to over tighten them... i used a torque wrench set to the recommended poundage..

I believe you can get the TIP direct from Forge....I think there's a BRISKODA discount as well.

Forge TIP can be bought direct or I know Star performance do them, not sure of the price differance.... who makes the gaskets?
