Adjusting Windscreen washer jets

Featured Replies

The rear washer jets on the Hatch, if you have them  work really well the two sprays along the wiper blade are a great improvent as the water hits the blade as soon as it starts to move, no dry scraping. Mine are set perfectly, but I have had a look at them and they both look like the old ball jets so I assume a pin will adjust them. They are easy to get to just lift the end cap of the arm and there they are. Not had a look at a Combi wiper yet but it could be the same.

  • if they are like the Audi ones, you turn a torx bolt to adjust the hight of the washer aim, do 1/4 of a turn and retry.

  • The topic was partly covered some time ago.... I did screenshot for my future use.... Hope they help.

  • If you confirm can we have a show of hands who has 3+3 or 3+ 1? I'd rather have 3+3 and if it's wrong I expect a free dealer fix.

From what I can see the washer jet for the combi is housed in the high mounted rear brake light.and looks like a nipple/pimple. Couldn't see an obvious way to adjust it (but it was getting dark!)

Given up trying to adjust them so booking the car into the dealer. Called the Leaseplan (has to be done via them) and they don't have the car on their system - talk about it being a painful experience getting it booked!! Just awaiting a call from the dealer with a date (hopefully a 'drop-in' booking).

my dealer sorted, mechanic said not seen that type of washer before but adjuster with torx screewdriver, seems the left one has 3 jets and the right 1 jet, it's very much like the octavia one though to adjust.

Have tried adjusting with torq socket but the main issue for me is the o/s doesn't seem to have a defined spray pattern. Looks like a trip to the dealer

My 190 L&K Hatch, definately has 3 jets O/S the same as the N/S. If you only have a single jet either two are blocked or your model has the same jet O/S as the MKII. This does seem strange as the unit is exactly the same size and fitting. Would be most interested to hear more from other members on this.

So I went to the dealer on Saturday. advised that the rear washer was operating correctly (disagreed and may try another dealer sometime) and the Nearside front washer had been adjusted. The Offside front washer was 'buggered' and needed replacement. Part on order and provisionally booked in for replacement this coming Friday.

I don't think my local dealer has had much interaction with the S3 and they hinted mine was the first they'd seen in the workshop and only sold about 3 so far.........

Just adjusted my o/s front washer. T10 torx bit needed, turn anti-clockwise (to the left) to incease the height of the jet. Go too high and the jet ends up hitting the edge of the bonnet. The best adjustment I could make was to get it spraying half way up the windscreen. Better than where it was at least. Nearside seems to have 3 jets where offside has only 1 with a lot less pressure.

Don't we think that the low firing jets are deliberately set as they are. Seems quite sensible I think as the inner driver's side jet bumps it's load a few inches above the blade such that when the wiper swishes across the screen it carries the water with it.

Conventional sprayer patterns on previous cars I've had always leave smears at the bottom of the screen particularly when winter roads are covered in salt.

How good they will be to remove splatted bugs in the summer will be something to discover next year.

My washers are fine. Good wide pattern (3 jets?) spray equally on both sides. Have not had to adjust anything so it looks like those who do not have similar do have a fault, minor blockage or require adjustment.

Are you saying you get 3 jets on BOTH washers? From most reports here it is 3 N/S vs. 1 O/S. It's very obvious if you spray the jets at standstill. I haven't bothered contacting my dealer because I think my situation is normal. Also, even with the current setup the windsceen is being cleared but it just seems like the N/S is doing all the work.

Yep, pretty certain but will check specifically in the morning. There is no discernible difference in the spread, strength and coverage from either side.

If possible can you post a video of your washer spray?

I've got three jets on each side but the o/s is considerably weaker than the n/s.

Maybe the weaker side looks to me like 1 jet. Need to double check myself!

Mine has 3 + 3. The o/s has poor pressure. Specially the one nearest to the n/S. I Will upload a video later.

Taking a closer look at mine I think the O/S is 3 jets but they are very close together and I even think they are crossing over one another so it looks like it's 1 jet. I managed to take a couple of videos but it's difficult to see it properly:

Would be interested to see / hear what other owners experience is compared to this.

Hi there. Tried a video but couldnt really capture anything worthwhile on my phone.

I definitely have 3 easily seen jets on each side. Flow looks equal, pressure about the same and spread is equal. The total width of the spread is almost across the whole windscreen.

The video doesn't look anything like mine. Nowhere near as much flow or pressure.

I would say yours is faulty in some way. Blocked, leak/pinch point on the supply line or in the jets etc.

I havent looked to see how the jets are fed but I have had problems with other vehicles where the push fit connectors (if that is what skoda use) have either been leaking or blown off completely. Your 'weedy' jet displays similar symptoms.

Cheers, I think I am going to raise this as a fault with the dealer and see what they do.

I'm still waiting on parts for mine to be replaced....

Pretty much the same as mine.

If anyone has anything different to the videos I have posted on their Superb 3 could you take some video so I can compare? Bear in mind my video was taken after I adjusted the driver's jet. It was originally set so low it was barely noticeable from a driving position. Even now it's only just halfway up and can't be any higher because of hitting the bonnet lip.

My theory is the lack of pressure to the driver's side is causing this issue. When I look at the pasenger jet it is also set very low (just like the driver's one was) but it's getting much more pressure and it's hitting the screen correctly.

Managed to sort a video of sorts. Check the second pass on the drivers side for a better idea of how much stronger the flow is than on yours

Video is set to private. Can you set it to 'unlisted' so I can watch it? Have the car booked in on 4th Jan will see what comes out of their investigation :)
