Highways Agency Traffic Website

Featured Replies

Just found this Highways Agency website.

http://www.highways.gov.uk/trafficinfo/

As well as traffic info (with a handy figure saying how many minutes delay a queue will add to your journey), it lets you read some of those electronic signs that adorn our motorways these days, from the comfort of your PC. You can also see the average speeds on some major roads (which quaintly never seem to go above 70mph). There's also a Traffic Forecast (will it be any more accurate than weather forecast I wonder? :rubchin: )

Looks like it's just a pilot at the moment so only includes some roads round a few cities, but may be worth a look if it covers an area near you.

This looks a good idea - if it is kept updated regularly - and that is a big if.

Highways Agency are only responsible for trunk roads so does not cover all of the other roads

The matrix sign information is fed directly from the computers that control the signs - so they should be spot on.

But the VMS signs are often plain wrong anyway!

Good site. thought this had dissapeared for good. There was a previous version i used to use.

That site also had a list of current roadworks listed by road number. I found that that list was kept usefully up to date, and I could avoid delays using it whenj driving all over the UK.

Hope that bits back as well.

thanks for the url.

This has been around over 2 years now and the signage and roadworks info tend to be pretty good - I use it regularly.

A very useful site if updated regularly and accurate. Both my sons often ring me for traffic advice when out and about. I must investigate how to display this as a live link on my PC's desktop.

yeah I've used it for about a year.. but it depresses me too much - all those bloody roadworks.. :(

Regards,
