Spare wheel size

Featured Replies

My new car came with the dreaded tyre inflation kit which I am not a fan off.

So I want to get a proper spare wheel and tyre and the toolkit. Toolkit already purchased

Size of tyre is 205/55 R16

My question is will the spare wheel well in the car be big enough for a 6.5 inch width wheel or do I need a 6 inch width one?

Full size rim fits.

But what width is a full size rim? I ask as I thought it would take a 6.5 inch rim.

However the handbook says that rims for winter tyres are 6 inch. This is the only reference in the handbook to rim widths

the vrs has 225mm width tyres on 7.5inch rims, they fit but lift the floor cover just ever so slightly

205/55 is the normal size of 16" wheels on the Octavia and is the size of the standard full size spare, so it will fit perfectly in the spare wheel well without touching the floor cover.

I've only just noticed that the SE L is now coming with 16" wheels as standard, with 17" being a zero cost option. This is presumably to reduce the headline CO2 figure for the SE L.

That is only relevant if you are intending to use chains.

Most people (including me) run normal winter tyres on 6.5 or 7" (J) rims with no problems.

I am using the rims I bought for the Yeti - which are 7's, on my MkIII
