Replace front end with VRS front

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been posted before:

I have a '54' plate Octavia (Elegance) which has some front end damage.

I've found a potential replacement front which has come off of a 2007 VRS in the same colour. It includes Lights, Bonnet, Grilles Wings, Splashguards, Rad + Panel Bumper and clips... just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to do a straight swap, or if I should go back to the drawing board and just replace like-for-like...?

I'd really appreciate your help.   :notme:

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Yep, all will be good!

You may need some additional plastic scoops and clips etc. but the fundamentals you need you already have.

In fact of the items you have the only one specific to the vRS is the bumper, which should be a straight swap.

As your Elegance already has front fog lights this will help too, although I'm not sure if the connectors will be the same.

As it is pre-facelift you don't have to worry about the LED DRL's either.

Fantastic News!

Only thing that I find odd is that my elegance *Doesn't* have front fogs!  :x

My proposed solution for this was to fit some of the LED fog lamp replacements and convert them to DRL's. Should save trying to find a switch for the interior, in case Mr MOT Tester gets funny about it....?

Do you think that sounds like an idea?

Fog lights aren't part of the MoT, so if you don't wire them up you can't fail (or be charged under Motor Vehicle Lighting regulations).

Skoda do already have some LED DRL's that fit into the vRS bumper.

Unfortunately they are for the facelift MkII Octavia Scout (and Fabia vRS) which have different fixing points compared to the pre-FL vRS bumper.

So, the actual light will fit in the hole but you will need to find an alternative way to fix them to the back of the bumper.

You can then use VCDS to code the car to use the front fogs as DRL's, although I'm guessing this might prove tricky if your car left the plant without front fogs fitted.

Excellent news! I'm sure i'll find a way of getting them secured. I think i'll bung a relay in to save having to get anything coded. I should be able to just take a feed from a switched (ignition) power and a 12v permanent feed to power them. That should save some pennies!

Thanks very much for your help.

If you put the DRLs in, I think they should be wired so that they dim when the headlights are put on.

Hi Sarge,

Sorry for the delay, been getting the new front end sorted, and delivered.

It's been delivered to the guy that's sorting it all for me. I've just gotta sort the DRL's now.

You're right about dimming - well either that, or switching off completely when sidelights are switched on- Although it'd be nicer to have them dimmed.

One thing I did consider is replacing the current fog light bulbs with an LED version, and then wiring those accordingly. Would you happen to know what the bulb type is on the VRS front bumper?!  H4/H7???

TIA.

H8 on the vRS.
