Hill Hold/Auto Hold

Featured Replies

Shouldn't hill hold give me 2 seconds from the brake disengaging to the brakes actually releasing the car? Or does that only happen from a footbrake release rather than from auto-hold release?

I had this problem until I realised that I wasn't depressing the clutch all the way to the floor. The first few degrees of clutch movement is you taking up the slack as such and zero clutch bite is in action. The next few mm's of travel (just prior clutch first contact) will signal the car to raise the revs to prevent stalling when bite point is reached.

Obviously 99.9% of the time, you apply the throttle and demand more rpm/revs from the engine to give you a better take off from standstill. If however you don't apply any throttle (because the lights you anticipated changing didnt), but have lifted the clutch pedal up enough to raise the revs, the autohold will assume you still want to move off and release the brake.

There is a fine line with it releasing (unwanted or not) and it's mostly to do with points in clutch pedal travel IMHO. I played around with my seat position (eventually ended up closer than I might have set it before), where it allows me to fully depress the clutch pedal without over extending my leg, or having the seat base dig into my thigh.

It can be annoying. Alternatively, when you come to stop at that junction, press the pedal much harder than you would normally. If find the system will release easily on a gentle press over a much firmer one. Afterall, the hill might be slight, but the car doesn't know you have a 2 ton elephant in the boot does it!

  • Do t let them fob you off ! Just because they can't find anything doesn't mean it's not happening. They need to be talking yo Dkoda about it.

I believe there was a transition on the SE L Exec between not having Hill Hold as standard and it being a standard fixture.

Can anyone tell me how I know whether I have it please?

I'm kinda hoping I do as I believe it gives you a bit longer hold - which is better for towing... or is it?

Confused dot com!

I believe that Hill Hold is standard on cars with the DSG gearbox.

It's on page 24 of the July 2016 brochure.

Just the issue mentioned previously, it won't release if you have a door open.

If you pull the handbrake switch / or press the auto button to disable the auto handbrake you can then open the door and drive

Pretty sure I don't have the Hill Hold function (MY17 SE L with Manual Gearbox and no optional extras)... a couple of observations though;

If I don't come to a complete stop at a junction and try to pull away in second gear the engine cuts and I have to depress the clutch and increase the revs - Any idea what causes this and whether a change to my driving style is required?

Deactivating Auto - does help me reversing into my awkwardly shaped drive that is on a relatively steep downhill incline - however I also am finding that in Auto, playing with the pressure I apply to the brake pedal, does mean I can gently apply the brakes in reverse without the Auto activating. Is this a "personal choice" or is there a recommended method - i.e. is it better for the vehicle to utilise one method over another?

Thanks guys.

Did you figure this out @dogluvr? You have the same model I'm due to collect in the next couple of weeks and I'm now wondering if I should have ordered hill hold. I've never used an electronic parking brake before and I'm mind-boggled about how you can pull away on a steep hill without rolling back. Is auto hold standard on the SEL manual? Will this stop you rolling back prior to reaching clutch biting point and moving forward? I'm intrigued, and just a little bit concerned!

Thanks....

AUTO HOLD PROBLEM.

I also have a problem with Auto hold like FLATHEAD AND NICK-H on my 2016 Superb 2TDI. It will not release every time! It’s an intermittent problem! My garage and Scoda say there is no problem however it happened to their mechanic once!

They are still looking into it. I suggest they find the solution soon or I will not buy a Scoda again!

Very Very dangerous!

Anyone else with this problem???

Did you have your seatbelt on and the door closed?

If the door is not closed and I’m pretty sure if your seatbelt is not on then the I know the handbrake will not automatically release, not had a problem with auto hold though.

I'm not sure that's quite right. Every day I drive out of my gate without a seatbelt on (to get out and close the gate behind me) and the handbrake releases fine.

My early problems with autohold and the handbrake sticking were almost certainly user-error, as they resolved quickly with no intervention. I'm not 100% sure what I was doing wrong, but in my manual I don't think I was depressing the clutch all the way to the floor as I went to pull off, and I suspect this may have been the cause.

the only time it sticks slightly now is the first time I drive off after the car has been washed.

Yes, the seat belts were on and the doors were closed and I was driving for 1 hour before the auto hold went crazy. Once it started it continued locking at traffic lights. i will depress the clutch further and see if the problem is resolved.

Many thanks!
