1.4 mpi cold start problems

No, it's a 2-pin sensor. One sensor, read by engine ECU. Engine ECU talks to Instruments module via CANbus to tell the gauge what to do.

G62 seems to be working as it should be. Could it be a bad fuel pump or a clogged fuel tank something? I've ran the car about two weeks ago with an almost empty tank (about 6 litres or so). Could this be the problem ?

Update: First of all, thank you all for your involvement in my problem, I really appreciate your help.

It seems that the second G62 sensor failed and the coolant gauge needle dropped again while the engine was running and hot. The last day I've got sick of my hard cold starts so I've unplugged G62 sensor and voila, it started like a charm. Well, the idle wasn't raised at ~1000rpm, but it started like a charm. This morning I've replaced it with my old sensor and it went even better, idle was ~1000 rpm. In conclusion, 047121111S doesn't come with a compatible sensor for the 1.4 mpi ATZ engine or at least my vendor was selling me peanuts. In VCDS it was showing the correct coolant temp (at cold and when hot, but for some reasons, it wasn't working as it should've been).

I don't know how I got to this part number, the thermostat and the housing are looking ok so far, but I can't say the same thing for the sensor. I will post the part number of the sensor that comes with it. I don't know how you feel, but when I turn the key and the engine is starting without any struggle at 0C it just makes my day at 7am.  :notme:

That 047121111S part should be correct including all its sub-components, of which the temp sensor should have part number 06A919501A.

That's item 15 (whole thing) and 18 (sensor), on this page.

Did you buy genuine or aftermarket 047121111S?

Glad your day has been made. :)

I've bought a genuine part, of course. I don't really think they do come in aftermarket versions though, not as a kit at least. Thanks again!

Great that it's sorted, shame it took so much speculation - certainly I thought that a new G62 would be ok!

Actually there were 2x new G62 sensors that proved as being faulty or incompatible. I only had to replace my thermostat housing because it was leaking. The old sensor was just fine. But I bought an OEM kit...oh, wait...two kits...and now I'm waiting for a refund for one of them..I should ask for both, but I'm really tired of this hit. I'm just happy that my car is still alive. :)

Please tidy up my confusion. I seem to have the same problem. (X reg 2000 Fabia 1.4MPI)

In post #32 - the last - Alexandru refers to two G62 sensors.

1. Are two sensors fitted to the car?

2. Where is / are the sensor/s on the engine unit?

3. In post #32 Alexandru says "The old sensor was just fine". I assume "old" = "original". If so what caused the initial problem? - and how did it get resolved using the original sensor?

4. What is the part number of a sensor that does fit? 06A919501A was suggested earlier but that is listed for the 2007-13 model on the Skoda Parts website with no suggestion for the 2000 model as in the thread and my vehicle.

I thank you if you help me fully understand.

There is only one G62 sensor on the 1.4 MPI. Some sensors have four wires and some two wires. That is where the confusion is arising.

The sensor is pushed into the thermostat housing and simply held in place with a plastic U-shaped clip.

Thank you, TMB. Mine looks just like that.

That's Qs 1 & 2 answered.

EDIT: Cancel this - I've found that lifting the top bit releases a catch inside.Q - how the **** does one remove the connector off the top of the sensor? I assume a brute-force-and-ignorance yank upwards will not work, but cannot divine which bits of black plastic to press/pull. I have found how the U-clip works.

My item has two wires coming out.

Howzabout questions #3 & #4 folks?

Pull the tag on the plug straight upwards.

If your sensor has two wires it's part number 06A919501A

By the way, I strongly advise getting a genuine Skoda sensor as some of the pattern ones are total rubbish.

Aye, that's similar to mine, but it has several more holes and possible moving bits than shown in your picture.

The catch is in the same place and works the same but is not quite so obvious.

Thank you for your help, TBM. I appreciate the effort that went into it.

Now here's a weird thing. I removed the top, checked for cleanliness etc., reconnected, turned the key and - bu**er me  - it went and kept wenting! So, no clear reason found for the failure last night. Ah well, at least I know a bit more about the car.

You're welcome.

There is only one, but I replaced 2 .. 2 DOA OEM sensors.

My old (but not OEM) sensor was working just fine. I had to replace my thermostat housing due to a leak. The repair kit came with thermostat, thermostat housing and temp sensor. I replaced the old one with the new one just because it was already there.

There are a lot of the same components and sensors that have been used from 2000 till nowadays.
