Buzzing / Rattle from Headlining?

Featured Replies

Hi

Well I've found my first rattle. It sounds like it's coming from the sunglasses holder area but touching it doesn't make it go away.

It's quite a light buzzing type rattle, pretty quiet tbh, but I'd like to get rid of it.

Any ideas?

Could be that the transparent plastic over the lights is loose.

Also could be the hinge on the sunglasses holder has worked loose.

Finally, have you actually got any glasses in there? I find that putting any glasses in my one creates a massive rattle. I fixed it by putting the glasses in a soft pouch before putting them in the holder.

The glasses holder is very convenient, but has one design flaw: it is linen covered only on its bottom side. The top side is bare plastic so the glasses naturally rattle when they contact the top surface. One solution is what Chris suggested, I want to take another path; that is to find a suitable self-adhesive linen to cut and stick to the top surface. I am a bit lazy though and haven't done it yet, although I noticed the rattle since day 1.

So glad to have seen this I thought it was because I got my sunglasses from the 99p shop

Following this I checked mine and I've actually got some kind of foam insulation inside my glasses holder. I'm completely amazed as the rapid stands for all that is cheap and money saving, let's say it's a car of the times. What amazes me more is that I've tried my glasses in it and not a sound!

You are lucky Nels. I too have he foam in mine, but it is only on the base, the glasses rattle against the sides of the compartment, where there is no foam.

Thanks everyone.

I've found it is actually the headlining around the glasses holder. Just the gentlest touch makes it stop.

I'm going to remove the glasses holder and pack some foam under the headlining I think.

To be fair the whole car knocks and creaks from time to time in different places. Mines developed an intermittent knock from the near side rear when going over speed humps. I just don't even think about it anymore it would drive me mad if I did.

Yep same with mine I actually wondered if it was the wire running to the rear light? Ive still got a rattle in the seatbelt adjuster on the driver side and the rear left speaker too!! Not brilliant but I guess my car is over 3 years old now so I should expect a few rattles here and there.

Not that helpful, but I can report at 2 years old there are no unwanted rattles or knocks on our Spaceback SE.

Cool.

I just use Planet Rock to hide all mine.

Phew! Mine is currently very nice and quiet indeed at 6700 miles, except for this very quiet buzz. Its only because its right next to my ear that I can hear it to be honest.

Touch wood! Rattles drive me mad. I managed to make a Peugeot 306 rattle free with a weekend, felt tape and foam pads etc, so I will hunt the rattles as/when they appear - hopefully not though!

Mine developed a rattle from somewhere behind the radio which I asked the dealer to look at when it was serviced yesterday, but I don't think they did anything. It's hard to tell as I perforated my left eardrum a couple of weeks ago so I'm fairly deaf on that side for the time being! :D

Currently playing hunt the rattle again. This one is coming from passenger side of dash (not contents of glove box). It's sending me insane when driving.

If you do find it please let us know how you resolve it. I plan to take a few pics as I tackle my headlining issue. I can then build up a library/reference thread to point people too if they have such problems in the future :)
