Strange delay in power today

Featured Replies

Only posting in case it's happened to anyone else and there's a simple answer....

Tootling along in a 30mph zone today and then into national speed limit, gave it a bit of gas (not kickdown, just a bit of pressure) and there was a tick, tick, tick sound before the power came in. I had nobody behind me so I slowed down and used the paddle to put it into 6th and tried again, same result.

Not had time to try to replicate it again as traffic flow has been too busy in the places I could try but will try in the same spot it happened next time I have the chance.

Is this the start of a problem? Hope not!!

Hopefully just Spark Plug time again.

How many miles since they were changed or the Oil Spray Jets went in?

Maybe some of the Breather Pipes will need checked.

See the post above for the question on the Driving Instruction insurance.

Maybe you can help.

As far as I'm aware they are still original plugs, not sure if they were new when the engine was changed at 6800 miles or if they were transferred from the original engine, so possibly nearly 27k old

I'll monitor it and try to replicate it whenever possible, sounded a bit like a loud "pinking"

Oil jets were changed 4000 miles ago

I'll check the above post :-)

EDIT

Can't see the above post, different forum maybe?

Best get new plugs in even if there were new ones that went in with the replacement engine.

Anarchy,  thread.

The ticking could also be the compressor's solenoid clutch. Happens sometime for me when I accelerate around 1800-2200rpm.

It would have been around that rev range I suspect, has yours got worse or do you think it's just something that happens?

It did not go worse, just happens some times (generally with a puff of soot). It never happened over 2500rpm.

The "Audi Self Study Programme 491 : 1.4l TFSI Engine with Dual Charging" says this page 22 :

Roots blower - Drive :
The Roots blower is activated when required and driven by the coolant pump via an auxiliary drive.
The auxiliary drive is activated by a maintenance-free solenoid coupling on the coolant pump module.
If the solenoid coupling is deactivated, three lead springs pull the friction plate back into the initial position.
Due to the high forces involved, "clicking" of the solenoid coupling is normal. This can occur at engine speeds of up to 3400 rpm.

Due to the ratios from the crankshaft pulley to the Roots blower pulley, as well as the internal ratio of the Roots blower, the Roots blower rotates at fi ve times the speed of the crankshaft.
The maximum speed of the Roots blower is 17,500 rpm.

But Georges has much more knowledge than me concerning this engine.

That's great to know, thank you :-)
