Steel wheels for winter tyres

Featured Replies

Thinking about getting some winter tyres - my current set are well worn on the front and I don't want to be on them through the worst of the winter. Also want to protect the alloys if possible.

So, do any of the big tyre fitting companies supply steel wheels ready-fitted with winter tyres?

Is it best to stick with standard size or go for a more narrow profile? Main tyre is 205/55R16

Thanks,

Stick with the size you are already on, the 205/55 R16 is the recommended winter tyre / wheel size on the Octavia anyway (check out the label inside the fuel filler cap).

There is lots of choice for tyres on steels, most of which are on eBay, these are the cheapest (budget tyres), prices rise for branded tyres...

If you are happy to stick with 16" wheels I'd look for a set of second hand alloy wheels as they look much better and can be had for the same money as brand new steels.

In my experience the painted steel wheels rust after a couple of seasons if not looked after, alloys are much more durable. There is lots of choice too as VW, SEAT and Audi utilise a lot of the same sizes needed for the MkII Octavia.

Bag a bargain...

Hi I fitted vredestein quadrac 5 tyres to my car recently. They are a all season tyre saves a lot of messing around. Fantastic in rain I live in the high peak in Derbyshire unless you live in the highlands I would highly recommend these . I used black circles website go buy them.
