Wet footwells : (

Featured Replies

Just noticed today after all this mad rain the drivers side footwells are very damp

I've heard before of doors needing adjusting that can lead to this, any other common places to check?

Cheers in advance dudes  :notme:

The membrane behind the door card may have perished allowing water in. Another possible cause is blocked scuttle drains allowing water to build up and overflow via the heater into the cabin.

Check those mentioned above, also build up of crud behind wheel arch liner causing water to back up. Door alignment is one, my money would be on door membrane, only takes a tiny gap in the seal in this weather to get carpets soaking.

Check the above, and if you have a sunroof, check the drains in the A-pillars and behind the rear wheels.

That's great folks muchos cheers for the advice! Hopefully get a nosey at it over the weekend :)

Anything trick about removing the door card and where exactly are drains near rear wheels??? Assume front drains are similar to MK4 golf

Door card is pretty straightforward but here is a guide

obviously you don't need to tape up the window...when refitting make sure you push the rubber nipple into the groove behind the door handle when you hook up the cable. You'll see what I mean when you do it. With door card off you could try pouring water on window and watch how it drains or leaks.

Checked front sunroof drain hose today, got a load of crap out of it followed by a steady stream of water, so that has obviously been well backed up. Fingers crossed that's the culprit!

I've currently got both my front seats out and the carpets and sound deadening lifted up with a heater in there drying mine out. They were really soaked. Both my drivers side doors had no membranes at all which is most likely the cause.

Was the back of the door card wet and or showing staining signs of having been soaked? Some people when doing stuff in there don't replace it and have no problems. In my case I had hell with one rear door after at the same time resealing front one successfully. My issue was mainly with water when going through the door getting onto the membrane and riding it down, so on the 25th attempt following much swearing I just tucked it inside the door to allow it to follow it down where it's meant to go.

If you are seeing water on top of lower door seal on sill then that's likely where it's coming in though.

Yes the bottom part of my door card was/is damp. I've sealed the rear door up pretty well now and also done the front door too. There's been a bit of rain and the carpets seem to be dry which is a relief, it took 3 days to dry it out properly with a fan heater. I still need to bolt the seats back in which I'll likely do tomorrow. The passenger side carpets were very slightly damp so I'll whip the cards off sometime and have a wee look there. I hope to god that i e fixed the problem, it seems good so far but time will tell.
