TYRES?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys and Gals,

i have a 1.4 16V Fabia Mk1 Estate with Mk 1 VRS 16 inch alloys.

My tyres are in need of changing.

What tyres should i go for? Open ended question, I know....

Budget is very tight, but i don't want to be ice skating any time soon.

I drive within the speed limits, no harsh braking. No hard cornering.

Any suggestions, comparisons, links would be greatly appreciated.

I have the option of going back to the stock alloys which have decent tyres, but then just worried that i'll never get round to getting tyres on the VRS  alloys.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

As Coskev said, don't go too lower price and end up buying a set of ditch finders. I personally wouldn't buy a "cheap" set of tyres being that the tyres are the main thing that is keeping you on the road. (just my opinion)

If you have a standard set of alloys with good tyres then put them on for the winter and get the VRS alloys re-shod for the spring, that way you can get them refurbed and painted in the meantime if you want to spend the munny.

Many thanks for your comments and suggestions.

I have used my spare (brand new alloy with an almost new Wanli tyre) to get me through the festive period. Have to get the tyre sorted asap.

i think i'll prob end up refurbing these Mk1 Fabia VRS alloys (weather permitting) and use the standard set of 15's that i have in storage.

Again, thanks for all your contributions.

Have a Happy Holiday season!

Its ok, only one corner will end up in the ditch :)

TBH a ditch finder on one side is prob more dangerous than a pair of them,as the grip will be different on left or right hand bends :(

Consider yourself a set of all-season tyres, word is that they've come along quite a way aslong as you keep the driving sensible.

Depends what's your budget I think rainsport 3s are best bang per buck.

I've always used continental part worns because my brother works at a tyre place.

On the VRS I just got I have nankangs I think? Which are budget like 25 each brand new (trade price through my brother) and my two front ones I'm going to get some new ones this week for just 25 each.

Currently on the limit almost and even in the wet I don't really slip when going fast round a roundabout and the back end only sometimes starts to, and when I say round I mean like 3rd exit all the way round on standard suspension setup body rolling like a mother ****er.

E/ other week in the dry as well on budget low tread, we went on like a rally road trip with two of my mates in ST and 182 and we were really giving it some and it was fine.

I've had some Bridgestone A001s on since September after a bad experience with some budget tyres. They feel very grippy and I've been particularly impressed with them at high speeds on wet motorways and other muddy country roads; there is pretty much no aquaplaning. Not had a chance to test them in snow or ice though. I have noticed a drop in MPG since fitting them but I can cope with that just because these tyres make me feel much safer and are very predictable - perfect for me as my car is a daily driver. I don't imagine these tyres would be great for 'performance' use or if you're a spirited driver who likes going sideways on roundabouts etc etc.

+1 under 70 quid fitted per corner
