New Yeti after 6 years......Question

Featured Replies

Afetr six years and 100,000 miles, it's time for a new one. Amundsen Navigation is the only one offered here, so:

How well does the hands free telephone work with the Amundsen navigation??

Are you talking about brand new or new to you? I don't know about the old Amundsen but I have used the BT with the latest version in a Golf and it worked very well. Pairing was easy and reliable and both calls and texts worked well.

the older one, 2013 works very well , don't use it  often, but when reqd, its up and running quickly!

I have the Amundsen II (January 2015) and the hands free phone is excellent, it works very well with other bits and reduces volume or even mutes when a phone conversation takes place.
The phone battery level and reception always shows on the top line of the Amundsen so you know when to make a call and also shows on the Maxidot. Voice control works well.
I am very impressed with all the Amundsen II does. Was a bit concerned about not having a CD player at first but we had never carried more than 5 or 6 CDs before and did not listen to it very much.
Now I have about 84 CD Albums on a 8GB SD card copied over from my CD collection on my computer, it shows all album artwork together with track and artist. We now listen to albums that would have remained in the boxes and would never have been played.
The Sat-Nav integrates very well with the radio/music and phone, much better than having a separate unit and the TMC traffic shows any problems ahead and routes around them.
All in all I'm very glad I ordered it.

I though the phone was paired and used via the steering wheel controls......not the audio system.

Either on the one I used

Either on the one I used

I had a very weird experience trying to story numbers in my 2012 Bolero and was then told not to do it via the ICE at all, but via the MDI/wheel.

The phone is paired with the Amundsen II and all options are set on it, that's what makes it such a good integrated system.

So easy to use as any images associated with the caller on the phone are mirrored there.

Any calls can be made or answered on it as well as the steering wheel controls with the MaxiDOT showing what's going on.

It will also read out text messages received and allow new ones to be composed and sent.

Riggs, brand new, not yet ordered.

Should be the same as the Golf I drove then as this was the VW version of the new Amundsen.

I don't know about the older versions but the one I tried was very good and could be controlled by either. I have the new Amundsen coming in my Yeti partly as a result of being impressed when I tried it.

Hi Urrell, Did your TMC work from new or did you have to get the firmware flashed to work? My Jan '15 Yeti has never worked and despite the dealer trying to fix it for a whole day remains non working. I just can't be bothered with another trip to fix it and will attempt to have it fixed again when it's due a service. Pity Skoda don't make the update publicly available and I'd do it myself.

I suspect that nobodys TMC worked on post November 2014 Amundsen IIs.

I also think that mine was the first to get fixed and others have quoted my reg to Skoda and their dealer to get in touch with Horton's of Lincoln who sorted mine in less than an hour.

It is well worth getting sorted.

My last 2011 Yeti Greenline Elegance with steering wheel controls and voice control on the Bolero radio system. I have just got a new 2015 Yeti Outdoor SEL which has no steering wheel controls or voice control. I assumed (wrongly) that seeming to be the replacement for the Elegance it would have at least the same features as the last car. As I have a lot of numbers on the phone this is a big inconvenience to me not having this. In fact I would not have bought the car if I had realised this. I think Skoda have been a bit misleading in this case and feel let down by them.

That's odd.

My 2012 build SE (it wasn't designated as such in Australia) Bolero setup had those features so that certainly needs to be explained.

Modified: Rather strange that because the MF wheel is standard on the S and above.

I am currently costing an Octavia and find I can get more with a second hand low miles Elegance at £5000 less in outlay.

Our 4x4 didn't have anything fancy in the way of heated leather powered seats indicating top-of-the-range status and 'only' the Bolero ICE system but the 1.2FWD and 4x4 DSG diesel were stand-alone models out here without model nomenclature.

Sorry but never assume, it makes "an ass of you and me"!

The current brochure is quite specific about it not having those features.

The 'value for money' aspect becomes questionable if they start de-specing and then ask for more for what they used to include.

But does the 3 spoke wheel give you the features that Alfredj actually wanted?

Page 32 says that steering wheel controls for radio & telephone are only an option on SE & SEL.

£155 puts it all to rights though surely?

£155 puts it all to rights though surely?

Yes, if you specify & pay for it when you order the car. But it sounds as though Alfredj didn't.

Incidentally, it's still quite common for manufacturers to throw a lot of extra kit at new cars at launch, and over time as sales pick up, the extras are deleted. Then when the next upgrade is launched, they put it back on again.

Let's hold our horses here, we are relating a 2015 built vehicle to a 2016 spec brochure. Alfredj needs to clarify his 2015 model before we discuss further.

Also we need a copy of ALL 2015 Yeti brochures the see what was and was not available across the range.

Ref the 2016 brochure, Page 32 refers to the option of the Supersport 3 spoke wheel which has the flat at the bottom. As shown in the Monte Carlo section. This wheel was an option in 2014 at £155 when I purchased my Elegance. Please be aware, the flat is at the bottom when the front wheels are in line with the rear or at certain points of turning  :dull:

The Supersport wheel is not available on the S or the L&K.

Page 8 and 18 shows and states 3 spoke Multi Function wheel which is shown throughout the brochure and is the standard, round, multi function wheel which as I read is available on all models but the MC.

Hmmmm, interesting! The specification in the brochure does seem somewhat variable and in places vague.

Page 32 of the June 2015 version is exatly the same as the same page in the Jan 2016 brochure (although in Jan 2016 there's a fuller description of Smart Link & Smart Gate).

I agree that the multi-function wheel is shown throughout both brochures, but in neither does it say what the multi-functions actually are, until you get to the L&K.

Skoda (just like all manufacturers) have the ultimate get-out clause though. On the back page the brochure says:-

"The information in this brochure referring to prices, specification, design, equipment, material and external appearance relates to the time at
which this brochure was printed. Whilst every effort is made to ensure its accuracy, the information in this brochure is not binding and is subject to
alteration. Images within this brochure, including the front cover, depict left hand drive models, with both standard and optional equipment shown.
Please confirm exact specifications, prices and colour availability with your ŠKODA retailer who will be notified of any changes as they occur."

So, as has been mentioned on this forum before, if a particular feature is key to your purchase of a particular vehicle, you need to clarify its availability with the dealer before placing your order and confirm the same in writing so that you can reject the car if that feature isn't present. Of course nobody ever does this, because we trust the manufacturer to produce a car to the specification in the brochure, don't we. Heads they win, tails you lose!

I've generally found brochures have a declaration ......in fine print , at the bottom of the page, declaring that (generally also) the picture is of ...........(top-of-the-range).

It's difficult to find any of the lesser models, I find.
