I've a feeling this will be one of those threads that will just go on and on in the forum! Ah well, it would be a boring world if we didn't all have different opinions!

  • I would not have a hatchback without a rear wiper. I believe a clear rearward rear is vitally important for safe driving. The only saloon I have driven in the last 30 years was an A4 (obviously with n

Regarding aesthetics, I don't understand the logic behind those 'Barry Boys' boy racers who remove the rear wiper from Corsas and such like.

Then remove the door handles and fit electric 'poppers'.  Schmooov, innit  ?

This I agree with, a car that has no ‘boot’ overhang (estates, Corsa etc) really does need the rear wiper.

But then it would not be "cool" he he he he. No emicons.

Or 'fill in' where the rear reg is supposed to go & place the number plate on the rear bumper instead. Skoda missed a trick there!! ;-)

The plate was actually on the bumper in the pre-facelift Mk II.

I ordered the car with a rear wiper and it came without it.On the Order sheet it clearly states that I ordered this no cost option so I would check with your dealer before the car is built to make sure you have it fitted(Now I will have to go out and find some rain repellant).

Join the club, there are a few of us. Someone will be along shortly to tell you it shouldn't be needed anyway.....

Bringing this thread back to life with another question.

Those who have the rear wiper, can you tell me if its a continuous motion when activated or is it intermittent?

Cheers.

Now that there are more superbs out in the wild, can anyone comment on the rear wiper necessity?

Do you regret not getting it or do you have it and barely use it?

I'm talking about the hatchback model.

If I needed to reverse off my drive then it would be a PITA without the wiper, however since I reverse onto the drive, the rear screen (which has Gtechniq coated on it) is clear within a few hundred yards.

like gismo i also reverse into my drive but the other day i came home late and becouse it had been a long day i drove in.

the next morning (everything frozen) i did the usual front screen and rear screen heaters defrosted the side windows and got in to drive away.

it was at this point i realised how much water could stay on the rear screen when stationary. needed to clear to see out.

now I understand some people don't like the style with a wiper but i think a hatchback should have a rear wiper but

it just comes down to what you want on your car !

I think that Skoda went about this the wrong way, it should have been a no cost option to delete it and not to provide it!

Can i assume that if i specced the rear camera, it's not that big of a deal and that the crap will clear off once driving?

I'm glad I've got it. Yes, rear camera would reduce the need for it when in slow manoeuvring situations.

I'm getting used to the camera, but yesterday I found the lens splashed with rain which affected the picture quite badly - rear wiper to the rescue!

Only if you are going backwards ;)

A long time for no answer. It is intermittent, the timing defined by the speed of the front wipers (as with the S2 estate).

Indeed. I posted a picture of the rear-view camera screen in wet conditions in another thread which contradicted the view expressed that it would be useless in the wet.

I have to partially retract that, as it seems to be the luck of the draw if the lens actually gets wet. Most of the time mine manages to remain clear, but a few times now it has gotten wet and consequently become virtually useless.

Not for the first time am I posting that I'm grateful I opted for the rear wiper on the hatch - but each to their own opinion.

I ordered it, but I do think it spoils the look of the car. The car hasn't come yet and from what people say

I've got a 50-50 chance of it actually appearing on the car.

The rear view camera is more important for me which I did order, so if it turns up without the wiper I'm not

too fussed, but no camera and I'll be pi**ed

Is the rear-view camera screen only on when in reverse?

Yes, it stays on when you pull forward but goes off at a low speed (5 - 10 mph?)

Personally think it makes the rear of the car look not as good as without, so didn't bother and can see cars through the glass. Also have the darkened glass, so rear view is slightly less than normal anyway.
