I want a Jabbasport Remap what do I tell my Insurance Company?

Featured Replies

Hello all...

Got the Octavia back seems okay! I want the remap and some people also have a kind of boost controller as well fitted.

First of all what do have to tell Insurance in terms of power increase (1.8T Elegance 4x4)? Is the boost controller necessary and what is it for? Do I need a uprated dump valve or is standard okay?

I am with Admiral so I assume I tell them it is getting 'chipped'. How do I tell them about the boost controller, dump valve (if needed of course).

Also I want to uprate disc and pads does the Insurance company need to know?

Where do I get that basic upgrade done and do I need uprate brake fluid.

Please bear in mind I am in the Northwest.

Thanks to all

Aaquil

You have a duty to declare all material facts to your insurer - in this case the remap, variable boost controller, DV, and uprated brakes. If remapped on Jabba's rolling road, you will get a printout showing before and after figures. Your insurer may ask what the new bhp is, or what the percentage increase is. Either way you have the info available. The variable boost controller allows you to infinitely vary the remap from the remapped power output down to near standard figure. If you have the car remapped for 99 octane fuel, you can turn the remap down to optimise it for 97 or 95 octane fuel, and to put the performance back to standard. The OEM DV is a cheap and cheerful plastic component. A metal DV - Bailey or Forge, for example - should be more reliable and be better suited to the remap, but you don't need to change it. I can't advise you where to get the brakes done, but plenty of members have gone that route. Finally, changing the brake fluid to DOT 4 (I think) is a good choice and will benefit braking.

PS: There is plenty of information here on upgrading to Audi TT brakes at a very reasonable price. And nice to hear your car is OK now. Did they tell you what they did to fix it?

To add to what Den has said....

Declare everything...generally insurers will work on % increase....I reckon 10-12% is enouhg. ;)

The boost controller allows Jabba a little more scope when remapping...they can lift the boost and torque limits. Another benefit is very hot very running. Without the boost controller you'd find the car will struggle to maintain boost due to inlet temps and it'll probably feel a bit unresponsive...turning down the boost will improve the response as it does have to get to and maintain higher boost values.

Brakes.....if yo wish to tak epart in a few track days then upgrading the fluid is a good idea...Castrol Response Super dot 4.1 is fine...should have no probs getting your garage to change as it's compatible for the standard fluid.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply Denis. The answer to your question is "NO" and I do not really want to know!!! I am finding out how much it will cost so I need to have a general idea of power increase. In case they refuse to Insure it or quote me silly.

Thank a lot

Aaquil.

Given the problems you've had and the fact you have a warranty I'd leave the remap for now.

12% on top of 150bhp is only 168bhp! Someway short of Jabba's claimed figures ;)

Doh! Forgot about it not being an RS.:o

To throw my 6 eggs worth in this is the best bit of advice you can take. If you get more problems 2 things may happen, the car company will blame your mods for any problems & may not do any more repairs, Even if they honour their word to exchange the car they wont pay you back for any money you have spent on re maps etc. as Eddy says run the car for a few months to make sure you want to keep it

Aaquil,

If you are with Admiral they will not insure a remapped car. They will however, insure a chipped car. So despite the fact that virtually no-one chips cars any more they won't touch a remap for "safety reasons".

Thanks for all the responses guys I will wait a while before remap. However after the 'jobs' I have had done at 'The Car People' I will probably go to SKODA and pay rather than get bodge jobs done. By the way the 'Horners' Skoda in Manchester (Bury New Road) are they reliable, good, know their stuff? Please give me any good/bad experiences from a servicing and repair point of view.

Thanks again for all the helpful responses.

So as I mentioned what percentage increase for Jabba on a 1.8t 4x4 should I be giving?

Mine was up 40% on the 'before' RR figure, or up 53% on the 'book' 150bhp figure. Before and after figures were with BP Optimax which would have given better figures than 95RON. So you need to know what question your insurers want answered about power increase. Jabba removed the ECU on my car and replaced the original chip with an emulator board and chip which was subsequently remapped - so technically mine has been rechipped and remapped. Confusing or what?

Best to speak to Jabba about the remap options and the likely power increase then quote that to your insurer.
