Fabia VRS Reliability at 200bhp

Featured Replies

I've owned mine in a variety of levels of tune. If I go back in time to when I was running a stage 1 map at around 165bhp and my original turbo went pop, I then had a PD150 hybrid fitted. It was mapped to about 200bhp, and I clearly remember picking it up with high expectations, but leaving feeling quite disappointed. It just wasn't a huge difference over the stage 1 map if I'm honest - especially for the money that I paid!

It was only when I fitted the much larger GTB2260 turbo that I actually went 'wow!' when I drove it!

In my opinion just get a decent map off John (faboka) and leave it at that power wise. If your turbo starts to fail then upgrade with a PD150 if you feel the need. John's prices are excellent and you'll be more than made up with the extra grunt from the map. Start upping the turbo and you're on a slippery slope ;)

I have the opportunity to purchase a car with a lot of the kit already on it, else I would probably take the above advice and start off with a generic map!

As it stands I am chucking myself in at the deep end and furiously trying to swim.

I think I am getting somewhere now anyway, I have spoken to Darkside and they have recommended a PD160 GT1749VB which they can supply for £700... http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/garrett-gt1749vb-turbocharger-for-1-9-tdi-seat-ibiza-cupra-pd160.html

I'm not 100% sure what the difference is between that and the PD150 GT1749VB, which is £150 less! Can anyone shed any light? http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/garrett-gt1749vb-turbocharger-for-1-9-tdi-arl-pd150.html

Am I right in thinking that the aforementioned MDX446 from Turbo Dynamics would be better than the above, assuming I can get it for a competetive price? http://www.turbodynamics.co.uk/shop/mdx446-stage-2-hybrid-turbo-for-vag-19tdi-130bhp-engines-p-4858.html

Thanks again!

When I mentioned the MDX446 to Darkside they said they wouldn't touch it - they no longer fit or map any kind of hybrid, only standard turbos or the big-boy stuff they sell.  Not too sure why.

The other well trodden path would be a GT1749VC from Xman, and then a map via Faboka (I have messaged him and awaiting a reply). Is this a good option? Seems very wallet friendly too!

The VC turbo that Xman sells are good... if you can get them setup correctly! A lot of fiddling is going to be required changing the actuator settings. So if it's something that's easy to fit then I'd just look to the MDX hybrid.

For the record I have a Xman turbo on mine (2260) and it's been faultless. Just I know from experience that his hybrids can be a nightmare to set up correctly - I'm sure John will agree!

I would most probably give it to somebody who knows a lot more than I do to fit, adjust and map it!  It's just finding the right person/company to do it at the moment, as well as the right turbo.

Another vote for the Turbo Dynamics MDX hybrid turbo here.

Because they can't get the price on it to make their margin, Darkside are all about the munnys.

I'm sure they would map their own GTB hybrid :)

To be fair I can see why they do this. Theirs lots of no so well hybrids put together out there that result in ALOT more time required to map them well. A Stock turbo whether GT or GTB are so much easier/faster to map. And for companies time is money.

Yeah they put a new policy into place mid last year that they wouldn't fit parts they didn't supply.
