Colour of alloy wheel

Featured Replies

Hi all and a happy new year.

I am looking for an alloy wheel so that I can get rid of the gunge puncture repair kit and use the wheel as a spare. The dealers are of course far too pricey, so am scanning ebay and breakers to see if I am lucky enough to find one in mint condition. My question however is, if I can only get one that has kerb damage, when I send it to be reconditioned, can any companys I send it too exactly match the original paint colour. I believe the alloys are Neptunes. Does anybody know what colour does match a Neptune off a late 2011 VRS?

Thanks silver1011 for your informative reply. Just got to find a wheel now.

Just read all the way through the earlier link you posted. Are you saying that the L1H7 silver on the earlier Zenith wheels, is the same colour as on my later Neptune wheels?

Might in the end buy a brand new Neptune wheel. Just seen them for sale in a Skoda garage based in Winchester for £155.51. Seems a great price to me. By the time you buy a second hand one and get it reconditioned, you will be spending close to that price anyway.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is the same, Zenith to Neptune.

The reason being is that the guy from the Skoda bodyshop said they use the Audi paint code for all of their silver Skoda alloy wheel repairs.

Saying that a good alloy wheel repair is well over £50 inc. VAT so if a brand new wheel can be had for £155 then you may as well buy a genuine new alloy!

Cheers silver1011. Yes looking through the internet, I thought the price was really good. Going to ring them tomorrow to confirm and if in stock, pick one up. I want a perfect alloy, as 3 of the others on my car are perfect and the other one has a small kerb scratch, which really annoys me. I am rather anal with the condition of my cars mind. The other half just says I am "sad".

Well the idea of a new wheel at that good price is gone. Phoned the garage and even though online they say they are available, they can no longer get them. Back to finding a second hand one.

It would be perfect, but it is a 17" and mine are 18". I saw that one yesterday and cursed when I noticed it's size! Thanks for the heads up anyway. I have also seen a real tatty one listed underneath the one you have pointed out. It's going for £54.99 or nearest offer. Not sure as yet how good a job a reconditioning company could do with this one?

Thats a pity about the size , the £54.99 one would be repairable but it does have some pretty deep gouges in it , not sure how a professional reconditioner would do it but it would need filling with something.

If you are in no great hurry for it just wait for a good example to come up if you look at the completed listings it would appear they come up for sale pretty regularly.

Hi millser. I think patience is the key. Hopefully find a better one for sale in the future.

Hi Millser

In the end I went to Skoda, bought a full size steel wheel and then had a new tyre fitted. Gave up trying to find a genuine unmarked alloy one. At one point I even bought a reconditioned one on ebay from a company that recon them themselves, £130. They messaged me before I bought, that it was the same colour as the originals on my car. Went to pick it up with cash but when put up against my wheels, it did not match. I even preferred their brighter silver wheel, but it was no good to me so I refused it.
