What head unit and how to remove?

Featured Replies

Hi all. What head unit is this in my Octavia and how do I remove it?! There's a wee bit of black trim underneath that comes off but all that covers is what looks like a chip board lol

Looks like a Bolero head unit.

You may want to post this question in the In Car Entertainment section as well, you might get a speedier response...

Cheers :) the Amundsen looks similar but removing that looks easier lol

Any chance a mod could move this thread and close the duplicate?

Duplicate thread removed but where would you like this moving to?

Have a search on this forum. Someone (andyvee?) tried to retrofit a Columbus about 2 years ago, I don't think it was successful but I remember there being photos etc.

From memory the screen has a void behind it as the brains are in the glovebox.

These headunits are very integrated into the cars operation e.g. tyre pressures, phone, locking, lighting etc. so I think you'll struggle without it.

You can fit sat nav to the Bolero for about £400 if that's what you are after.

Just search vw mib sat nav on Ebay.

To the in car entertainment section unless it's ok here?

I'm looking to clip a ferrite onto the DAB antenna cable as I'm still getting interference. I've heard they could help reduce it, just not sure how to access the cable...

What's causing the interference? I did all this with my van a while back (bought a load of different cables, ferrite cores etc. ) and tried everything to cure it without success Then I removed the cheap griffin double USB adapter and it all fixed itself.

The car is a taxi so there's various gps equipment that's causing it. But even when that's switched off the DAB can cut out every few seconds and it's mega annoying!

Think the actual head unit is in the glovebox, unclip that CD SD card unit and you should see the cables.

Does it do it on FM as well as DAB?

Nope, only on DAB. There's the CD changer in the glovebox, is the antenna plugged into that?

Possibly. Have a look in the workshop manual, link at the top of this forum.

Could it be the nav cutting out the DAB. Just that I've noticed something cutting it out almost like its the car itself rather than external influence. Or maybe it was when I was trying to turn on bluetooth for phone, but certainly noticed points where it just stops transmitting.

I personally wouldn't change the stereo, but I do have the satnav but even without would value the oem ness over non standard stuff, you need the car features etc.
