After a VRS any advise welcome?

Featured Replies

Just putting this out there as at the moment I own a very nice Audi TT coupe. Been thinking for a while now I could use something a little more practical, hence a Skoda Octavia VRs fits the bill nicely. Good build quality, loads of room, more doors and the same 2.0 litre Petrol engine as mine (perhaps).

However I want an Auto (dsg?) too but these seem only avaiable on the diesels or on newer models of the petrols. If this is the case maybe I would consider one and get it chipped to bring it up to the same performance (or better) than the petrols.

Prefer the saloon (hatchback) to the estate but if the right car came along perhaps I could be swayed.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Mark

I have the vRS on a 60 plate with the DSG box...in Petrol.. I do love it..it also comes with MFSW which most models don't tend to have..which is madness on a modern car!..  It also has paddles which I find very useful for down shifting coming off Motorways, dual carriageways etc for engine braking... it can be used in full Auto mode, but use the paddles to shift up/down if you want a gear change sooner... it puts it into semi mode for a few seconds before the box takes over again...or you can use it in Sport/manual mode all of the time if you wish..

The reason I chose an auto was for a back injury a few years ago which affects my left foot... although the last couple of years I have been driving a manual (jeep) but since it was written off in an accident, I decided to go back to an Auto as the clutch was causing issues with my back in stop/start traffic.

An Auto doesnt suit everybody..but for me it was the right choice...

I know if they go wrong they can be expensive to repair... but if looked after, ie with servicing the DSG box with an oil change when required it'll at least help preserve it for longer...

Id say look for a nice facelift TSI DSG myself.

The TDI's are great and plenty quick enough really..alot more frugal than the petrol too but you "might" find the performance a tiny bit lacking coming from the petrol TT.

Try and diesel and see what you reckon...you'll probably stand more chance of finding a TDI as Skoda sold many more of them but the TSI is the better like for like.
