just bought these is it just straight coding to vehicle?

Update. Finally found some time to have another play. Opened it up and read the eeprom 93c86 chip to find the SKC. Also managed to transfer my odometer value across.

With the SKC I then followed Ross-techs guide for cluster swap and also key coding to the new dash.

One problem remains. Speedo isn't working. Check in vcds and the cluster isn't picking up speed. :(

Wasn't there a changeover at some point from dedicated speedo sensor in gearbox to using ABS sensor/module info? Relevant? Dunno.

Worth looking into. Anyone know if this is the case between ASZ and BLT?

Nope, if it's got ABS it uses it. If it don't have ABS then it uses a gearbox sensor. But there may be an adaptation on where the speedo is picked up from.

Hmm. That's  confused me. There's a sensor on the diff of my Polo, and the missus's Fab, that I think is a speed sensor. Both vehicles have ABS.

What's that sensor for then?

Please be gentle with me if this is a daft question. :)

On my rally car vrs I had to put a wire into the back of the cluster to read off the diff speed sensor as I junked the abs.

Dash coding has speed sensor options but not sure what they change.

Think their is only 2 coding options. The cluster was already the same as my original so assuming is correct. Can always try to other option tomorrow.

Hmm is this from the same batch that Wja96 had from the group buy years and years ago?

His was also faulty, and was suspected to be a stolen factory reject as it wouldn't work properly.

Hope it wasn't that batch. Didn't the speedo work on that batch but was just out?

Thinking now this close had 20k+ on the clock so was used.

Could be an adaptation rather than coding. Might be worth a quick scout through the label file.

Can you do a cluster output test on the mk1 with vcds like you can on the mk2 Octavia?

Yeah all output tests work. Looks like it's not getting a speed signal.

Any tips to look for?

I'm not sure, should be fairly obvious.

Cheers. Will take a look tomorrow.

Keeping an eye on this still myself :) Really hope you get it all working ok.
