Be fair, sat navs are a very new technology and there are only a few around!

The auto industry regularly demonstrates its lack of knowledge that's been around in ICE etc for many years eg TomTom more than a decade.

They are so involved in meeting emissions targets (weight, aero drag, engine design) they are only now starting to realise the younger person's priorities are entertainment when stuck in the inevitable traffic jam.

Elon Musk would take their pants down.

The units would come from outside suppliers so the design and software would be down to them.

I agree though that inbuilt units generally lag well behind other technology.

Further to my post No 6 I thought it may be helpful to give an update

The sat nav continued to operate the same Ie had to go through a number of steps to get the post code screen to come up this was even after I had unintentionally turned everything back to Factory settings . I could also not get my phone to work hans free in the car possible due to reverting back to factory settings.

I arranged to take my car back to the dealers Alex Laurie  on the 15th August for them to have a look at it . I tried the sat nav before leaving home and it was no different.

When I got to the dealers Tony the technician came out to my car and sat in the passenger seat I sat in the drivers seat switched on the sat nav pressed the flag icon expecting the screen to show country it showed Post Code I can not think how that happened , Tony then proceeded to reset the phone data so it would again pair with my phone. Job done everything back to how it should be.

Tony then said he would check what release of software I had , on checking he found that they had been a software update, I explained that my 3 year warrantee had expired on the 23-6-16  and that I had had a service only a few days earlier than that and would it not have been standard practice to install that software, he checked with the service manager and he said they would only install the software update  if the customer had said there was a fault with their system , but they would install it in mine for half price £45, I was not too happy but went ahead and had it installed.

Another of the service guys phoned me a few days later to see how it was going  and told me that next time I get my car serviced to ring him he will deduct the £45 from the bill  

 

I have noticed now that when making calls using voice recognition it is far more accurate and responsive . 

 

If anybody else is having problems with their sat nav system or is coming up to the end of the warrantee period I would advise that they ask to have the update installed

what a pile of junk, whoever put the manual together needs a good kick in the shins.  Anyone any idea how to store destinations as favorites, great having the option, great having a manual, damn poor that the manual for the satnav is barely 3 pages !

My 2015 Amundsen manual has 16 pages for navigation.
This is for saving destinations as favourites.

▶ Show the destination details by tapping on the functional surface  at the

Don't know what manual you are looking in, but mine has a lot more than that!

Are you looking in the general car manual and not the actual Amundsen manual?

The 2 previous posts (out of a total of 3) about the same subject were in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 onward) !!!

Both of my Yeti's have come with a car handbook and another separate handbook for the "infotainment" system.

How old is your Yeti?

You don't say which Amundsen model you have, and you're not telling us much about the manual you have either. Kinda hard to guess what you're asking really.

I appreciate the help but its kind of hard to know theres more than one model of head unit when theres only one in the car and no manual.  Was difficult enough to find the head unit name,  only found out on this forum but that thread didnt mention there was more than one version of each head unit.  And hard to know there is a seperate manual when the general owner manual mentions the head unit in it but not in great detail.

Let us know what car, model and it's year and I'll point you to the correct manuals to download.

As Urrell says, you haven't given us much info to go on. For any advice having what car it is, what specification, how old and sometimes mileage at least gives us a starting point. You don't even list the type of car you have in your details below your Forum name.
