Airbag warning light - potential poor wiring connection?

Featured Replies

The airbag warning light has come on just before my Octavia is due an MOT. It did so about a year ago and the SKODA garage I took it to, found a badly made connection on a wire somewhere that resolved it but they didn't say where exactly. I don't want to have to pay again for the same thing to happen, particularly as its an MOT fail and it could be a simple fix as I am reasonably technically minded as regards repair of electrics. I wondered where about to check for wiring faults that could cause the airbag warning light to stay on. The drivers door wiring loom has been commented on a showing signs of water ingress and corrosion to the connectors awhen it had the window motor replaced about 6 months ago, is there anything in that loom as a potential candidate?

You will need to plug it into vcds to find out what part of the airbag system is at fault.

DO NOT run power through wires/plugs to test them! (or its bye bye dashboard/seats/steering wheel/hearing!)

usual suspect in most cars is the plugs under the seats.

remove battery for safety, then unclip plugs (yellow ones are airbag system) I use electrical contact cleaner spray - about a tenner a tin from halfords but works really well!

I don't know if the airbag lights rest themselves or stay lit after fault is fixed, you may need to have it plugged in to clear the code?

As stated above, you need to get it scanned. It will also need the code cleared for the airbag light to go off.

Wiring under the drivers seat is a common failure.

Hi i pulled a few fuses on mine which led to an airbag light coming on something to do with change in voltage i think! a simple reset and sorted. have you removed any fuses lately.

True if you have side airbags.
