Fabia Vrs or track?

Featured Replies

Hi, not been on here for years..

Looking for a 2nd car hack, which would be good on the track, which would be relatively cheap to maintain, small nimble, FWD. I'm a bit limited due to height, but it seems I fit the VRS (1.4TSI) with helmet..

So has anyone done this? and pros/cons?

My daily is an M4, which is just too expensive to risk on the track, at least until I get some experience/confidence..

Here is one.

As to cheap to maintain, you best check out the Engine & DSG threads, and be aware of the shortcomings.

Plenty cheap around to buy, as in under £6,000. 2010/11, So not really that cheap.

Buyer Beware though.

Look at the various ones that members use on track with not too expensive mods of Springs and ARB without the need for Engine Mods.

There are a few Estates that do well,

including a Class Winning Hill Climb Estate in Australia, it is Stage 2 Tuned. That is 'mmmRacer'

(sharkrider's black estate is in the Fabia Project section)

I would imagine for a race car, you want a nice £2k Clio 182 or similar, and maybe spend same again on a bit of tuning.  It will hurt less to crash it and they do handle really well.

Lower seat :p

Fair point...

MX5, just make sure your track days are when the suns out :)

MX5 as well.   Cheap , No height restriction,  good fun,  oversteer delights especially when wet.

If you have the M4 go for a proper track car.

Which as said means you can fit a racing seat which can be mounted lower.

And as hot hatches go, mk2 Fabia VRS wouldn't be anywhere near the top of my list.

They are tall, narrow, don't handle very well compared to the competition due to being based on suspension design from 1999 and are too heavy for a petrol.

Skoda added ballast behind the rear bumper on the hatch version...

That's without mentioning it being twin charged so more to go wrong in the engine bay and their appetite for oil.

Sure you an spend some money and sort the handling a bit with suspension and ARBs changed.

Then someone will come flying past you in a bog standard Fiesta ST.

Seat is mounted on spacers, undo 4 bolts, lift seat up. Remove spacers and refit seat
