satellite co-ax cable

Featured Replies

Can you use normal co-ax cable between dish and digibox or does it HAVE to be the actual satellite stuff?

We have cable at one end of the room but i want to move telly to the opposite end which will require joining it. have plenty of the aerial stuff kicking about.

For a small length (1-2 m) it will be ok, but do any normal length in CT100 if you value your incoming signal.

Sat cable has better screening. Also AFAIK joining isn't ideal.

IIRC, it has a different resistance. Might be wrong though.

However, I'm using a run of normal TV Co-Ax from one of my dishes to my PC and I have no problem with signal loss.

If you have a small dish and are in a fringe area of the satellite footprint, then I'd say cable choice is more important, but if you're just trying to get Sky Digital and you're in the UK, then you should be fine.

I used the wrong type of cable joining my Cable box to TV's in the rest of the house. Signal is largely the same, however sound quality varies, most of the time will only appear on Mono.

Agreed, sat cable definitely has better screening, and is even recommended for Freeview set-ups. CT125 probably best choice. Joining increases the signal loss.

I have the same problem with regard to moving TV to opposite end of the room, but i need some other stuff done anyway, so will probably get someone in to sort it.

Thanks for the opinions. Decided to rip the entire thing out - did go from dish at back of house, across the roof and down the front of the building, so i drilled hole in the wall, ran the cable under the upstairs floorbards and down thru the cavity wall to where i want it :)

CT100 is the minimum spec for satellite cable as far as i'm concerned. Use CT125 if you are looping through a loft box for example where you interupt the downlead going from the dish to the digibox
