Replacement Wing Mirror Glass

Featured Replies

Hi all,

wondering if someone is able to help me ... Just before Christmas an idiot decided to ignore the road signs and not give way to me coming over a narrow bridge, this resulted in my wing mirror being clipped and losing the glass. The idiot didn't even stop, although going by the amount of plastic etc - it looks like he came off worse!

I thought it would be as easy as going to halford's and getting a replacement. Which it hasn't been. They have now ordered both variations the system was showing for my car and neither are the right shape.

I have also tried a couple of other shops but all are the same.

My car is an Octavia estate, got it brand new in 2014.

One of the shops even went through the previous years (down to 2010, I believe, but it was still showing the part to be the one they had ordered already). He even tried looking up glass for a VW Passat.

Any help would be greatly appricated as I have spoken to the dealership and the glass from them is going be somewhere in the £50 mark!!

The replacement glass the shops have been getting is like this: post-115762-0-09166400-1452354076_thumb.jpg

And my wing mirror is: post-115762-0-77483100-1452354664_thumb.jpg post-115762-0-01533700-1452354814_thumb.jpg

Has anyone else had any issues like this?

thanks in advance and any help will be greatly appricated.

The shape shown is for the Mk2 Octavia and Superb....the Mk3 Octavia has essentially the same mirror housing as a Mk6 Golf and a few other VAG cars.

Perhaps try a Mk6 Golf glass?

You probably would be best off just buying the OEM part from Skoda though with the backing plate...will assure the mirror heating etc will still work as expected.

Don't Polo's share the same mirror housing as well?

You know what they say.... Buy cheap buy twice! In my experience of pattern parts especially mirrors they are never as good as oem.

Some faults found.....Heating elements poor, glass thin and have defects, don't have the oem wide angle section, don't fit as well.

Do yourself a favour and get it from a dealer... Some dealers do sell spares on eBay? I know Horton skoda does to mention one.

Hi Gordieflash

Tried "Wingmirrorman.com"? A while ago I needed a replacement glass for my offside mirror on my old Mk2 Octy estate, and they were very quick and competitively priced. That was about 7 years ago, so I don't know if they are still going.
