Automatic Door Locking Unavailable

Featured Replies

Skoda Fabia SEL 1.2 petrol.  According the the handbook there should be an option that locks the doors when starting off.  Car > settings > Opening and Closing.

However, while the option to open a single door or drivers side doors or all doors when unlocking the car is available, there is no option to automatically lock the doors when driving off.  It's simply not there.

Any ideas anyone?

Same with my monte carlo found the same issue

VCDS/Vagcom is needed for activation.

Dealer activated it for us, it can then be turned on & off in the Bolero.

EXACTLY the same comment as from the last reply !!

Yup, had the dealer activate it for me. But he couldn't figure out how to get the gauge needles to swing on start-up.

If you don't want to get your dealer to do this and can't contact a VCDS user, maybe consider buying Carista as it can activate this, I bought it as a "on the move" small simple scan tool (VCDS at home) for my Christmas and used it to activate this feature on daughter's late 2009 Ibiza - just a thought - kill two birds with one stone, sort out the auto-locking/unlocking and have a handy simple scan tool as you will eventually need it!

The dealer equipment can only enable/disable what is available on your specific model, it will not let them add additional features that the model never had from new. If needle sweep is not available on the SE-L from the factory then the dealer can not enable it.

More advanced settings outside the scope of the model require VCDS, a dealer does not have VCDS but a tool provided by VW.

Actually on the subject of "needle sweep", that comes standard on my Audi S4, but - you only ever notice it being carried out if you are stupid enough to not have the clutch pedal down on the floor - ie the "engine start" does not happen, only "ignition ON" accompanied by a helpful message to point out the error of your ways!

THIS....^^^^^^^

Like when I go in the parts lot & order retro fit stuff, they input my VIN & "sorry sir N/A for your car"...................I don't care those items ARE factory fit options in Germany & France but VWUK thinks we don't require them.............

Now the Parts Dept just order the stuff & basically look amazed when I show them later on the stuff fitted........ :D

Thanks for the clarification, Mannyo. For a couple of days it was on my "must have" list but I now wonder why? Having the doors lock as you move off is worth having - although I do still, sometimes, leave people out in the rain unable to get into the car 'cos I've just arrived and the doors are all still locked. Very naughty and only intentional some of the time.

Used to be generally known as "anti-hijack" feature............done it to various Golfs etc

& it was to be introduced as an EU Directive (Anti Hijack Lock / Self Locking)

back when ESP was first supposed to be with all New Type Approved Vehicles, then when that was moved back.

I assume the EU never put that into the legislation.

(& then the All New Fabia never needed Type Approval it was just a Face Lift.)

The ESP as Standard did, other Manufacturers obvious before required to and VW still as an OPtional extra for some models right up to the cut off date.

VW said 'self locking' would be on vehicles as standard and you could then choose to 'Disable / Inhibit'  instead of as in the Owners Manual

asking a Dealership to enable the function.

No idea where it got lost in translation between 2013 and the New Fabia being launched.

Current Polo, the 6R C not the original 6R Polo, also does not come with the "auto-locking/auto unlocking" activated, or that option visible in the "radio" menu. I activated only the menu option and discovered that more needed to be done as that only enabled the auto-locking, so I needed to go back again with VCDS and enable both the auto-locking and auto-unlocking.

Some of these options are handy and must improve personal safety, but I'll never remember to unlock the boot/hatch on our cars when stopping to pick wife up when she has been shopping (and it is raining) - and that does annoy her a lot!  First time I discovered that the hatch stayed locked when the car stopped was when I got searched on my way into work (!) - eventually I opened the drivers door and that allowed the security guy to lift the hatch on the Ibiza, again a handy security feature!
