New Golf R - Part 2

'Tis a similar colour to SWMBO's wagon, she'd be happy with a stage 1 map but would hate the "sporty"exhaust, both the looks & the noise.

We feel that for us, changing the appearance is a no-no (we both like Q-cars....) & would prefer to make it quicker but not obvious. Keeping under the radar, perhaps?

  • Well picked up my new car today... a Leon Cupra Initial verdict.... F**K its quick!! (of course it would be after a Citigo)

  • My R arrived on Friday along with my Dad's GTI!  Didn't even know there was a part two to this thread so have missed 9 pages!

Is the T-Roc R a more flexible option than the Golf R mk7.5 /mk8

Not really, the R wagon was cheaper than the T Roc R, bigger boot, nice to drive & not so nasty inside. The T-Roc interior is cheap when compared with a Golf 7.

Agree the quality of the interior in the T-Roc R is shockingly bad and an embarrassment for VW compared to the quality of the Golf R hatch or estate.

So if you want a big Petrol Skoda Hatch or estate with 272 ps, DSG & Haldex about £32,000 will get a new one.

The 300ps VW T-Roc R will be around £35,000 and a Cupra Ateca £33,000

So Superb is in a different size class than the Golf R, T-Roc or Ateca really as many looking to pay 30 grand plus can clearly see.

The size difference and handling being much more than the difference between Oooo & Ahhhhh.

So if you want to go slower and take longer to stop than a Golf R buy a Cupra Ateca. Only 340bhp in the Superb it goes quicker with the hatch body style and nearly 360bhp for sure.:notme:

Better value than a Golf R yes but those seats are awful as standard whether in the Grey or Blue car.

Other options  injected into the R range

New Tiguan starts from £24,915 in the UK with the R-Line models with 20" alloys from £32,730.

R-Line is just that, not an R.

Like a M-Sport / m-sport, or even with Skoda 'Monte Carlo'.

Maybe someone who's crazy enough to buy a T-ROC R & lives in the West Country?

I'd sooner have a Superb or Arteon, at my age I need the comfort (+ 4WD & 272 ps.....).

Only let down for me is that VW never had the balls to introduce the R400MK7.5 .

Yeah I want a manual box in the UK . We need to badger VWUK to get this option and make it a real drivers car in the UK

If VW Group can not get the Fleet Average co2 in the UK where they need it to be then there will be lots of vehicles / drive trains that will not be getting imported and registered in the UK.

They need many more electrified vehicles and full EV's first registered to ensure they are not going to pay a penalty on every vehicle the register in the UK.

The partners from other manufacturers are the same as VW Group in not getting enough Full EV's into the UK to assist VW Group on the Fleet Average kidology.

I thought the Up! GTI was a real drivers car in a country with a max speed limit of 70 mph and on real Drivers roads just 60 mph max.

Probably because the vag group EV offering is shocking.

The heat pump/efficiency debacle has made them some of the worst performing EVs out there. The OS/infotainment is appalling and they offer nothing extra to any of its competitors.

Up! GTI on the other hand is superb.

They are doing a Sporty Smaller one just like a Golf but not a Golf and not just a I.D.3.

Unless they can get batteries and chips it will be just like all the other models they spin and might sometime appear and need software updates as over the time they talked about it they never actually bothered sorting things.  Vorsprung durch technik.  Talk is cheap, cars are expensive. Fines are nae bother to us,  just reduce Service Schedules from 3 to 2 years on things that last generation were 3 years.   eg, the VAQ service & Brake Fluid.

I'd heard they were doing a ID.3 sporty version.

Problems will still be the same. The heatpump design is crap and the non heat pump cars are power hungry on the PTC heaters as if the efficiency wasn't so bad to start with.

On top of this the price they're asking is ridiculous.

I had an ID.3 First on pre order when they were "cheap". I cancelled it as I felt that VW had just failed with the execution. Ironically I should have kept the order and sold it for a silly profit (as you can no longer get a 77kwh ID.3 anymore). The prices now are just stupid. Even more so now Tesla have dropped their prices.

I tried most EVs going and bottom of my lost was Tesla because of the bad press and perceived bad quality.  How wrong I was. They're superb cars. I now own a Model 3 LR and couldn't be happier with it. 23 yrs buying VAG cars and I now own a "Yank tank". Just goes to show that VW have lost their way lately.

Saying that I'm looking for an Up! GTI to replace the VRS if anyone knows where I can get one at a reasonable price (should have got one of these in 2018 when you could get them brand new for £12500 too)
