Failed M.O.T due to heavey steering

Featured Replies

well recently failed m.o.t on friday due to the steering being heavy when stationery, steering is as normal when driving but only seems to be heavy when parked up when the engine running or driving around 5 mpg round a bend it tends to really stiffen up..other than that the steering if completely fine

could this be a possible broken wires / bad connection? when i click on the angle sensor messuring block it just reads 0 even if i turn left or right.

thanks for any help

edit: also is the coding for steering assist correct as i cannot adjust and save the steering weight it just goes back to 10120 no matter what digits get changed

You've got 2 faults pointing at the steering angle sensor, which will effectively disable the electric motor leaving you with no PAS. Also, I don't like the look of the alternator implausible value, so I'd check the voltage across the battery terminals with the engine idling since low voltage is known to have adverse effects on electric PAS.

The load signal wire failing is very common, plenty of threads on here. Failure leads to all kind of weird electrical gremlins. First thing, fix the load wire, clear the faults and see if steering returns to normal.

All those fault codes could have a single cause, the alternator load wire.

Thanks for the help, the only wire I have found damaged so far is the wire what plugs to the alternator, could this cause the problems with the steering?

I presume you mean the "Load sense" wire discussed above. If so, then yes that will stop the alternator charging, and kill the PAS motor to save electricity.

This!!

Also if you want to get rid of the selector lever and all wheel drive faults, which is equipment that your car doesn't have, refresh the gateway coding as in recode it with exactly the same coding it has now.

Lost count how many times we have posted that up lol
