Felicia 96> Handbook etc

Featured Replies

I have a owners handbook, service book etc for a Felicia 96> it came out of a 99 registered car.

If anyone in the UK wants them for price of postage (£2.80) only, drop me a DM.

You have a message :)

For future/present owner of the handbook:

Please scan it at 150dpi or more and share it with us.

Sorry it has gone now.

Then maybe 23rdian will make happy a lot of Felicia owners that don't have the handbook. I can offer technical assistance for doing a high quality scan and also for methods of sharing files.

I think I have most of what is shown in the photo above, I don't have a scanner but I can take photos of the pages if that's any use?

Your good camera and your attention to details will be as good as a scanner.

IIRC, your handbook should be for Mk2 models, which is a plus. To make things easier you could use a tripod and some simple jig to take consistent photos in terms of illumination, position, focus, and zoom. The only difficult things are to keep pages flat and also to avoid glare and uneven illumination. I suggest doing a test first. Take two photos of the handbook, the left and right pages somewhere in the middle.

Sorry for being slow, its been a busy week!  Here is a photo of all of the documentation that I got with the car:

Had a go at taking a sample photo on the coffee table, it was legible but not great quality:

Tried another photo, on my desk this time where I could use the desk lamp for better illumination.  This page looks a fair bit sharper to me:

If you'd like any of the stuff I've got digitised like this, I'm happy to make a pdf of it for you :)

Thank you. You will help not only me (I lent my handbook to a 'friend' and never got it back) but all other Felicia owners that didn't get the handbook with the car when they bought it from somebody else.

A PDF is alright, but a RAR archive with raw photos numbered in order would be even better. My intention is to adjust and enhance the photos as much as possible (sharpness, brightness, contrast, saturation, geometric distortion) while keeping the file size of final PDF as small as possible. If I'll have enough time, I might try OCR on photos using Abbyy Finereader 12. By the way, I am into graphics design and web programming too, so dealing with photos and documents is not big deal to me.

The last photo looks best. To make things easier for you and me I suggest a few things:

  • more light from opposite directions (2 lamps) for uniform illumination and minimum colour aberration.
  • have the book butt on top or bottom against some kind of thick, heavy, straight support. That will guarantee consistent parallel position of the edges of the page with respect to camera position.
  • a sheet of glass to press on page. Otherwise the inner edge of the page will get curved and out of focus.

I am sure you are inventive enough to do a great job. If you need anything, just let me know.
