Anti Fraud raids at Renault. EDIT, 19/01/16 & then a Recall on vehicles.

Featured Replies

I'm not 100% surprised if I'm honest. VW can't have been the only ones at it?

It'll be interesting to see if they find anything, and if they do whether they will look at other manufacturers too.

Well renault will open the door to looking at all the gm marques - Dacia, opel, vauxhall, chevy..

Be interesting times to be had

From that article "French Energy Minister Segolene Royal said Renault was not the only car company in France to break the rules on carbon dioxide and nitrogen emissions, but she did not name the others involved"
So, that will be Peugeot/Citroen then?

Aren't dacia part of the Renault group as well?

Time will tell if it is Diesels only or also these amazing French Manufactured 1.2 litre petrols with the Torque like a Diesel and low Co2 and Fuel Economy figures.

Aren't dacia part of the Renault group as well?

yup...

and nissan also use the same engines?

Isnt there also a link between them and gm - opel/vx/chevy?

VW can't be the only ones. It's like the Jimmy saville case (harsh comparison), they are all cowering in the corner waiting to be approached. Whatever cars are using the Renault engines will be approached but will it be Renault who get fined or the manufacturer for using their engine?

So it is 15,000 diesel Renault Captur for now.

Oohh... my RM got one of them as a temp lease vehicle while the company fleet lease is sorted out (focuses again. As usual for thems on the BIK..)

Will this affect Mercedes as well? They use the 1.5DCi from Renault don't they?

Indeed they do but I think only in the A- and B classes

Given the number of A classes I see on the road at the moment (of the 180d type) it could get spendy!

Don't Suzuki use Renault Diesels as well?  I'm sure my dad's grand vitara uses one.

If it's the Capture isn't the Quasqai the same car underneath?

Got to love platform/parts sharing...

Dacia is not a GM marque but 100% owned by Renault.  Got a Chevy (S.Korean) and a Dacia, both very good cars, both petrol.

Renault's statement on the Raid and issue.(Noting like the VAG issue they maintain)..   (Chalk and Cheese)

Renault’s mechanics will have to modify a filter that will require half of day of work per engine. The filter in question is activated between 63 degrees Fahrenheit (17 degrees Celsius) and 95 °F (35 °C). Testing for engine emissions in Europe is conducted at temperatures between 68 °F and 86 °F (20 °C and 30 °C). In the real world, average temperatures in Paris are considerably lower as only between May and September the daytime average exceeds 62.6 °F (17 °C).  In other words, Renault did not cheat during emissions testing, but there are discrepancies between the levels generated in tests and those in an actual driving situation. We all know tests take place in special conditions and are not exactly relevant in the real world. It is important to add that French investigators haven't found any cheating devices during the raid at three Renault sites earlier this month.  Besides this mandatory recall, Renault is going to offer voluntary updates to emissions systems fitted on approximately 700,000 cars as a preemptive move to avoid future problems. These changes are applicable to vehicles equipped with the latest Euro 6-compliant diesel engines that will generate fewer NOx emissions after the update.

Good year for Renault, shrugged off the relatively tiny "fix" on a few thousands cars and moving forward nicely. Just start offering the autobox on the Dacia and I will be happy.

“2015 results mark a decisive step towards the achievement of our plan “Drive the Change” targets. The involvement of all our staff and the success of our vehicles allowed us to reach our operating margin target sooner than planned. We must now achieve our revenue target while maintaining a margin in excess of 5%” said Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Renault.

In 2015, Group revenues came to €45,327 million, up 10.4% from 2014. At constant exchange rates, revenues grew by 10.6%.  Automotive revenues amounted to €43,108 million, up 10.9% thanks to an increase in Group’s brands volumes and sales to partners. The price effect was positive, primarily due to price increases in some emerging markets to offset currency devaluation.

Can't just be VAG. Surely Internal combustion engine technology is essentially the same irrespective of manufacturer?

Well Renault and several of the other large car makes use Lean NOX traps.

It is apparent that VAG tried to skrimp a few tens of Euros/Dollars just to get that largest car producer title and it has hugely backfired in that saving that little bit will now cost then about a hundred times as much per vehicle.

Slightly off topic, are Dacia offering autos across the range?

Well its a bit weird about what we will get in the UK. Dacia are, or have in other markets, auto, non clutch-pedalled cars. Some cars will get this intriguing Easy-R auto gearbox option, it is 600 Euros on the continent so should be less than £500 here. Then the Duster has the full EDC (DSG) gearbox, possibly only in the two wheel drive version, matched to the 1.2 TCE engine, possibly 130 hp version. Never sure that UK will get these models just like VAG they often do not put some of the really good version of their cars on the UK market. For example we do not get the exellent Dacia Lodgy, yet, massive people carrier for small money, saw loads in Europe as Taxis as with other Dacias. So hopefully we will get auto options on all Dacia models, probably only on Laureate spec initially though but maybe other specs too eventuially.

The turbo engined Dacias are quite flexible and the clutch of the TCE light of course. Auto will have fuel consumption equal to or better than manual which is more than can be said for many VAG wet multi-plate clutched DSGs. As my tag say I am convinced Dacia is the replacement for the value brand of the car market and adding auto will open up even more sales to the quickly growing brand.

Thanks, I will be looking for an auto  replacement for the Yeti for early next year, the Dacia is in the look at list as I'm not intending to get another Yeti. I actually preferred my Roomster.

A family member has an auto Quasqai and he will look at the auto Duster, if we hopefully get it the UK, would be a shame if we miss out.

Having a good dealer is always important.  Mine was a great Skoda dealer until SUK wnr down the road of "streamlining" to soulless chain dealership.

Getting out of Skoda and in to Dacia-Renault was every bit as good a decision of originally going to Skoda.  Can see a Twingo and a Clio RS being added to the fleet in the next year or so.
