2010 vrs gearbox gone? Help!

Featured Replies

So... I started off with what I can only describe as a chain noise which I would imagine would be a drive chain? The car then decided it couldn't go into any gear other than 2.4 and 6. Then about 100 yards down the road luckily at my home it decided it couldn't find any gear, there was a horrible clutch burning smell and a horrible rattling chain noise, the engine seems fine it's definitely gear box related, I'm now awaiting the dreaded from skoda too see what can be done and how long it's going too take me too save up too fix it! Anyone else had this? It's been around Europe so it's done 74,000 miles but has been regularly serviced ect. Please be kind I am a scared lady owner!

Sorry to hear this! Not heard of anyone having a gearbox go pop tho. Fingers crossed for you. :-)

I have no idea if it has gone pop... I have not tried too turn on the car since, it physically won't find a gear and the burning and rattling smell is concerning too say the least! I know they can go wrong electronically and I don't know if they can shut down like the engine does too avoid further breakages!? And the clutch will smell if it can't find a gear I suppose... All these questions ha

Has the Vrs got a dual mass flywheel? If so, flywheel broke up and took the clutch with it?

Sorry to hear this.

So Skoda did a World Wide Recall on the DQ200 DSG as fitted to your car.

Except in the UK / EU which is not in the world.

Here they started a Service Campaign after getting the VOSA (DVSA) to agree no Recall was required.

They started this May 2014.

Only not everyone that was the Registered Keeper / Owners got told.

So was your car one that needed or would have benefitted from the Service Campaign work?

Ask Skoda UK if it should have had the Synthetic Oil changed for mineral oil, and a DSG ECU Software update.

Ask if it was done and by who!

Also the Mechatronic Control Unit should have been checked.

This is what they did in New Zealand.

http://skoda.co.nz/news/dsg-service-campaign

Check if your car has any outstanding Service Campaign work or as now called 'Recall Actions'.

http://master.skoda-auto.com/mini-apps/recall-actions

The World Recall DSG boxes were then given an extended warranty.

Skoda UK / EU have said nothing about extended warranties, any further Service Work required,

but pay nothing until you find out in writing what is wrong, what it needs and are Skoda paying.

Maybe it is the ECU maybe Clutch Packs, maybe both, but then Skoda / VW know why they failed,

hence a 'World Wide Recall'.

Hi thanks for that that's great Info. How can I find out if I should have been notified about this and or should of had my ecu updated ect? I bought the car second hand around 2 years ago, please excuse the ignorance!!

Look in the boot beside the cars ID Sticker with all the Numbers and codes.

VIN etc.

There should now be a sticker with '34F7'  on it.

This shows the Service Campaign was done.

Not all need it though, so maybe no sticker.

Skoda Dealers or Customer Services will check if Required, or if done.

Sadly some were done not very well, not as the Service Campaign TPI with the vehicles Battery not supplying power during the Software Update.

Anyway you need to see what Skoda says, not what a Dealership says.

PS

i bumped the 'DQ200 Service Campaign' thread.   See post #91 for the letter that Skoda / VW sent out to those they had

contact details for.

Many Registered Keepers, Car Dealers including Skoda Approved Used Car Dealers seemed to be missed,

cars 'In Trade' etc.

if it has gone, it may be worth checking out brakers/ebay etc for a second hand box, rather than ask skoda to repair it, it may be cheaper......

'Free' is cheap, as cheap as it gets,

and if it was not Recalled or the Service Campaign done or even if it was it will be newer than June 2010

and VW know what they have as Fundamental Design & Manufacturing issues,

hence a 'World Wide Recall'  and 100,000 mile Warranties in 'Selected World Wide Countries'.

Best find out what has gone wrong, and then see if it is a Component Failure from what VW built, and Skoda can pay for it.

Full Dealer Service History, which means other than a 'Service Campaign', nothing on the 'Service Schedule.' (Guidelines.)

Have you had any juddering at all?

Sounds like maybe the clutches have failed.

Hi, the car has been serviced regularly but not by main dealers only the first 2 where dealers. It is going too skoda garage so I will write this all out and let them know too see what they say ect. It did have a juddering for about 2 mins before it decided it couldn't select gears kind of juddering like a misfire, then only 3 gears, then non and a bad clutch burning smell then a horrid metallic noise when car was running

Hi, the car has been serviced regularly but not by main dealers only the first 2 where dealers.

Here lies the problem, as your car has been serviced outside the dealer network it has missed a key service campaign and software update and who knows what else. I am guessing that any goodwill on behalf of Skoda has now also been lost as that is usually provided as part of "Loyalty" to the brand.

Have you had the DSG oil changed as per the service schedule, its an often missed item. IIRC its around 60K miles on the 7 speed.

I really hope you do get somewhere otherwise you maybe looking at a multi thousand pound repair bill.

Gears 1, 3 and 5 and 7 are on one clutch and output shaft whereas gears 2, 4 and 6 are on the other.

When was your car first registered and is it showing on the VIN checker has having an out standing Recall Action. or is there a sticker in the boot showing it as having been done. It would be after May 2014.

PS. you never missed a scheduled DSG oil change service, there is not one for the Dq200.

Thats interesting to know and I stand corrected, I did a google search for DQ200 oil change interval and the 60K figure was on another VW forum.

But wrong as the Internet can often be. I have a 2010 vRS and Skoda have never taken the effort to contact me as the Registered Keeper of a outstanding issue because they deemed it none Safety Critical and VOSA were convinced Skoda would deal with it by a Service Campaign but they did not advertise, even on a website as VW did, and even Skoda Approved used cars missed the Field Action if not serviced before sale in some cases. Plenty cars never had the actions taken and yet might have corrosion internally and MCU failures and clutch packs.

I don't think the oil has been changed. I've had it since may 2014 and have never received anything directly from skoda, if it's going too be many thousands too fix I'm not sure it's worth it.i just have too wait and see what skoda say,

It is not many thousands to fix if it is clutch packs

And if the Mechatronic Control Unit and Clutch Packs Skoda might well be paying. ? Have you checked your cars VIN on the checker I linked yet to know if the Service Campaign field action was outstanding?

Hiya, I checked and it said a recal campaign has been found then next line says too contact my preferred service provider...

Possible then that the DSG Service Campaign was never done.

The other one that is the Service Campaign on the Heated Seats if you have those.

(That one surely was Safety Critical, but again Skoda only contact who they had on their System at CS or Dealerships,

not a full Recall so not all Registered Keepers.)

?

Any update on your gearbox?
