Sat Nav not working

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone.

Bought my first Skoda in december and really happy with it, Bought an Ex Demo VRS with loads of options on it, my wife has a VW GTI DSG and liked that so much I went for the DSG in the octavia.

Only problem I have with it is the Sat Nav dosnt seem to work, When the SD Card is inserted It just says : Please insert a data medium with valid navigation data.

The lads at the local skoda garage have tried another SD card in it but didnt work. Its going back in a couple of weeks to be looked at as they didnt have time on a saturday.

Just wondering if you guys of heard of this as the dealer didnt really know.

Ive even made a copy of the SD card and burnt it to dvd but didnt make any difference.

Thanks

Login with your VIN to the following;

Input your vin and download the latest update cira. 14gb unpack onto an sd card and try that! A clean instal may help as copying form the sd card doesn't.

Probably the wrong SD Card from a different car, as long as it was sold to you with Sat Nav, it's the selling dealers problem. Get them to sort it out

If it's an Amusden sat nav the size is about 6GB

Car needs a Skoda OEM Nav SD card, an ordinary SD card wont cut it.

Ask the dealership to source you one through their parts dept...assuming they never supplied the original. Pop the SD in SD1 slot and it should work then.

Be aware the SD card costs in excess of £100 so really you want the dealer to supply at their expense on the basis the nav was non functional on purchase

Card needs to be in SD2, not SD1.

Card needs to be in SD2, not SD1.

I believe it should work on both SD1 & SD2, does in mine anyhow!

And mine!

Likewise works in both.

If you have a Skoda OEM SD card it will work in either slot. Any other cards will NOT work in either slot.

I wonder why it states in the manual that the SD card has to be in slot 2?

Thanks for the posts Guys, Yeas its a genuine Skoda card have tried in both slots, I have also downloaded from that update portal, and tried to update the software same thing dosnt seem to want to initialize the sat nav side, I have even burnt it to a dvd and tried that way but no dice.

Is the card for the A5 platform (should say on the box it came with). Id not be surprised if youve been supplied with an SD for an Amundsen/Amundsen + pre-MIB infotainmentas fitted to Mk2 Octavia and other Skodas of that generation.

Will take a picture of the box two mins

I may be wrong, but from my deciphering of the pics you've attached you have an MIB1 (e.g. old-style) head unit and an MIB2 (e.g. new-style) navigation SD card.

That would explain it not working...

If you put your VIN into http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ what does it say?  How big is the download?

Hi Ive downloaded the file, Its about 6gb when I extract that to a sd card it says navigation files found but dosnt do anything will just try it again,

On the SD Card I just got from skoda is a folder called Maps when I get the file from skoda online and extract it puts a Folder called Markets and also a Txt File called DBINFO.

IIRC the 6.0GB file size is indeed correct for an MIB1 Amundsen.  The MIB2 download is bigger.

However - the system will ONLY accept data on a valid Skoda SD card.  You cannot use any old SD Card you have lying around.

It seems that (if I am correct) you have the SD card for an MIB2 unit but an MIB1 unit in the car that you are probably stuffed until you get the correct SD Card. You could try unpacking the files you have downloaded to the existing Skoda card you have, but it still probably won't work, and unless you restore the card to how it was some poor soul could end up with it after you've returned it and wonder why it doesn't work in their MIB2 unit...

IMHO you need you Skoda dealer to give you the correct SD Card for an MIB1 Amundsen.

Thanks for the info. Just gonna quickly try that and copy the new files to the existing skoda card I have making a backup of the files first.

Thanks again for all the posts guys

Remember that the Skoda cards are normally supplied with the write protect lock enabled.  You'll need to flick it to the unlocked position before you can write to the card.

Works, copied the latest info from the skoda update portal onto the card they supplied me and all working now.

Happy Days

Thanks again guys.

Glad you got it working! It's helpful knowing that the "is it a valid Skoda SD Card" check hasn't changed from MIB1 to MIB2.
