Sunroof Jamming

Featured Replies

My sun roof keeps jamming about 2 inches from the fully closed position on my 2004 Mk1 Octavia VRS.. It jams with the motor, when you manually close it, and when you try pushing it.. I can't see anything jamming it and it moves freely up until about 2 inches from closes.. HELP?

P.s I live in South Wales so yes it's raining!!!

There are two plastic runners, one each side which buckle. I know this from experience as it happened to me.

I'm in Pontypridd if it's of any help to you?

When the slide friction is high, it will stop just before fully closed as it thinks you have a hand or fingers trapped in the gap.

The solution is to override the trapped finger protection by pushing up on the switch and holding it there when closing. This allows the motor to produce more power.

You still need to find the cause of the friction but at least you can use the car until the rain stops.

If you still can't get it to close, then pull down the switch panel. There is a hex key in there which you can engage with the mechanism to manually close the sunroof.

I've tried manually closing it with the hex key, and tried pushing it like I mentioned. Something is jamming it solid just before the fully closed position but I can't tell what

It will be the two plastic guides one each side. Exactly the same happened to me with my 2002 elegance estate.

If the runners have collapsed are they noticeable? Also are they fixable?

I had to take my sunroof out to remove them (2 T10 Torx correctly). I took them off and binned them. The roof works just fine without them.

Don't know how close you are to Pontypridd, but you could come to me and I can have a look for you?

Is it a headlining out job to remove the sun roof?

Is it a headlining out job to remove the sun roof?

Yes, but not too bad a job to do just time consuming.
