Sky dish and freeview

Featured Replies

I have a sky dish that has cables going to 3 rooms. 2 of these rooms have sky boxes and the 3rd doesn't. Can I change the end fitting of the cable from fitting a sky box to that which will plug into the back of the tv and get freeview?

Tia, Drew.

No. Only freesat.

Ah bugger, thanks for the quick answer.

No is simple answer .More complex answer is that dish head is an active frequency changing device, lowering the signal from the satellite to a lower one .

other benefit of using a north of the border postcode in setting up freesat box ,is that you will get all various versions of channels which are area localised.

If you get another sky box (second hand) and plug it in without a card it should just do freesat.

The Freesat channel selection is very similar to Freeview, but check to make sure the channels you want are included; off hand I seem to remember that DAVE isnt on Freesat.

Another option, if you live in a decent reception area, is a flat panel electronic aerial and a freeview STB or dongle.

It does but it won't adjust for your locality.

We have an old Sky box (from before freeview was available) and it defaults to London for everything. I should really get rid of it we haven't needed it for years.

I don't know whether it depends on the sky box but a friend in Wales has one and that knows it's in Wales. But they did used to have a card in it.

Our was an Ebay buy about 7yr ago, all the Welsh channels are still favourited as well.

We have a Fortec Star satellite box from Maplin. Cost £30. Picks up Free Satellite transmissions. We also use a 12 volt one when on the boat.

RE #4- I've got a commercial Free sat box, which I set up using local post code. One night, I saw a program on something in Scotland I'd like to watch. Freeview is limited to BBC Midlands, as was Freesat, but I retuned (Freesat) using dad's old post code( upnorth). Suddenly I had access to every BBC local station in the UK. However, not all Freeview channels are on freesat, and vice versa. But Freesat is useful when there's two programs you want to record on Freeview, and the other one you want to watch is blocked.
