Servicing

Featured Replies

My Scout is now coming up to 6 months old and the 6,000 mile mark. I have now got a message saying than an oil change service is due, is this normal? Thought the first service would be after 10k miles or a year.

No, that is not normal. Did you not get a count down giving you a month or so warning?

The options for the UK are:

1) Fixed - 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever is reached first.

2) Variable (long life) - Up to 24 months or 20,000 miles, the car determines when it needs fresh oil based on how it is driven etc.

There is also now an inspection service which is exactly that, a visual inspection, the oil and oil filter is not changed. Given it is asking for an oil service I'm guessing it can't be this?

A trip back to the dealer by the sounds of it.

Just make sure they don't simply reset the service indicator (i.e. 10,000 miles + the existing 6,000 miles / 12 more months + the current 6 months) as this will then throw out your servicing regime.

Thank you

Do you do a lot of short journeys? If you do it may be diesel contamination in the oil. Check the oil level. If it's high this may be the issue. Its a by product of the DPF reg process and is a known issue for DPF equipped cars that do mainly short journeys where the car does not heat up fully. I haven't heard this directly in relation to Skoda's, so forgive me if I have got this wrong, but it's very common with other makes at least.
