DAB bits and bobs

Featured Replies

I've just got my Columbus DAB and will be fitting to my FL Octavia II.  I'm replacing my non-DAB and know I'm going to need a new aerial - was looking at something like this one:

I already have the GPS under the dashboard but figured I may as well run the lead to the roof aerial if I've got to do the DAB lead.  What lead would I need to get for this?

For the DAB lead I've seen you chinaRF recommended on ebay so I assume they can make up the GPS lead if needed?

I was looking at this lead for the DAB:

Any advice appreciated.  Just waiting for my VCDS lead to arrive so I can code it all in properly.

That cable should be fine for either GPS and DAB. You'll need two of them (one for each) and I'd suggest labelling them to avoid confusion as the fakra Z will fit both.

They also sell cables with the correct connectors:

- DAB http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301704284654

- GPS http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301706185653

They are a pretty good supplier so if you have a preference for RG316 over RG174 it shouldn't be a problem.

That is the aerial I fitted, and I used this cable: http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Kinetic_PDCF5500L.asp as the delivery was likely to be quicker from Dab on Wheels.

I just mounted the GPS puck in the passenger A-pillar using velcro.

All works great.

I just use a personal DAB Radio and plug it into the aux input in the jumbo box and it works a treat

I did that for a while but on long journeys the batteries would be exhausted. Besides, fitting Amundsen+ gave me bluetooth and sat NAV in addition to DAB, all OE.

I found that the problem in my old Citroen C5 as the battery life struggled to get over 4 hours so I fitted a Sony DAB to it .... This new radio has a rechargeable battery and gives about 8-10 hours of use and I've bought one of the battery packs out of Aldi that recharges your mobile phone etc on the go to top it up ...

I had to do something to recharge it as for some reason if I plug in a double USB adaptor into the power socket to charged it and run my Sat Nav the Aux input either cuts out altogether or I get every severe interference ... that's just the adaptor plugged in with nothing attached to it and I've tried about 4 different models now

I listen to Freeview Radio!

Thanks for the replies - should be able to get the bits I need fairly easily then.  Good shout on the DAB on wheels lead too

Reason I'm chopping my old unit in is because the CD/DVD drive has broken and although I have a new drive to fit, I'm intending on keeping the car a while and really wanted DAB so I figured the Columbus is the best unit for integration with maxidot etc. and keeps it as "factory" as I can!
