Is the mk3 much bigger than mk2 inside?

Featured Replies

Hi all, mk2 is proving to be a bit small inside for my extra long frame and my growing family.

Does the mk3 have much more room for back seat legroom?

Cheers

Yep, there's more legroom, and then even more in a superb.

Is a bit bigger yes, lots of rear legroom. Boot is slightly bigger too but not a great deal in it. Little or no wider though...its no more accomodating than a Golf in width terms.

Yes, try one at a dealer. What it's like on a journey I don't know, I sit behind the wheel.....

Thanks folks. I just bought a superb which is huge! But I'm struggling to get comfortable in the seats. It was from a dealer so I can do a 30 day exchange so wondering if an octAvia would fit the bill.

Which superb do you have goatboy...is it a Mk3 (new one)?

You are probably better off in a Superb TBH....I have an Octavia Elegance and the seats in that are woeful......I have a v bad back at the moment care of my occupation and having two heavy small children (I sit behind a computer all day) and Im convinced the Octavia has played a part in making it much worse.

I have a Golf GTD now as a daily drive (company car) and the seats are epic...but the damage is somewhat done...though probably nothing a good dose of needed exercise wouldnt fix haha.

The vRS seats might be better for you but I have heard mixed thoughts on them....i think they have good lateral support but thigh bolstering isnt so great and people do suggest the manual lumbar isnt that much cop.....I have to say the manual lumbar on my Golf is more effective than it is on my Octavia.

To get the best seating in a Superb/Octavia you really need the electric memory seats which then come with 4 way pneumatic lumbar which is alot better...because the seat base height is also adjustable you have a bit more adjustability on the seat too.

Thanks pipsy. I've got a mk2 fl l&k so the seats have all the adjustment in the world but something about the basic shape seems to be wrong for me. I've only had it a week so still lots of adjustments to try but I spend a couple of hours in the car everyday so I can't afford to be uncomfortable

Bigger all round. Although only 5cm wider, the interior width feels larger. Whereas I could stretch across and reach the passenger dashboard side window vent fairly easily in my MkII, I can't do it in the MkIII.

I spend anywhere between 4 and 6 hours everyday in the Octavia, I had real trouble in my previous car getting comfortable( Renault Scenic). I have no complaints with the O3 at all, and Ive only got basic SE seats with manual Lumbar.

Ive got fairly long legs, with the Renault seats even fully back I was a bit cramped, If I put the Octavia Seat all the way back Im too far away and there still seems reasonable leg room in the back

First thing my nan said when she first sat in it was "it's massive in here compared to your old octavia"

So if Nan says so it's law!

There is ample room in the back of an Octavia, if often do 100 mile trips in mine with 4 of us all over 6ft.

Before you commit to exchanging your superb id ask if you can borrow an Octavia for a few days to see how you get on with it.

Ha!  Love that.  Nanna never lies!

You should raid the vag parts bin for better seats as both vw and Audi do superior front seats. I had the same problem with l&k octy and ended up getting some Audi a3 sport seats instead as the octy ones gave me sore thighs and backside.

Thats another option.  Audo A8 comfort seats look particularly nice, not sure what would be a direct fit though...

Heard the new Passat ergo comfort seats are very good too and won awards by back specialist in Germany. Guess you just need to measure the width and length of the 4 mounting points on you existing seat to check.
