Featured Replies

Just purchased a vrs estate 2013 plate. current tyre fitted 225/45/18 is it possible to change profile to 225/50/18 without changing all four tyres, just burst a brand new tyre with pothole not even had the car a month. low profile tyres are horrible cheers in advance.

No.

45 or 50 is a percentage of the width and mixing them would cause all sorts of issues and may be illegal.

Replace blown tyre with same.

Running one tyre bigger than the other three is a definite no, no.

However, if you do want better pothole protection without getting smaller alloys then you could always sell the other three brand new tyres and buy four new replacements in the larger size.

On a vRS riding on 18's you might however come upon issues with rubbing on full lock etc. There is also the insurance angle to think about, running a non-approved tyre size.

I run a larger profile on my Superb for the same reason...

A 45 profile tyre is already an increase, standard should be a 40 profile; 225/40/18. As above all 4 should be the same size and profile.

This was always an issue on my vRS, a commute down dark country roads that were poorly maintained...

Just one more advantage of 195/65-15's on top of them costing half as much as the large tires, as well as lasting half again as long.

Made for actual roads, not racing circuits.

I really doubt they are 225/45r18.  The OEM size is 225/40r18 which is 25.1" diameter.  The alternate sizes are 225/45r17 (25") and 205/55r16 (24.9")

225/45r18 is 26" diameter.  I've run 25.9" and they scrape if the suspension compresses when cornering.  The tallest I've run without any issues is 25.7".

225/50r18 is 26.9" - You'd have all types of issues at that diameter.

At best on an OEM 18x7.5" rim you might run a 215/45r18.

I know a few people that have fitted their vRS with 16x7.5" rims & 225/55r16 tyres.  Works a treat.
