noisy after startup......and i'am getting worried

Featured Replies

Hi

whilst my 1.2 TSI 60 plate yeti appears to be otherwise fine, upon start up its very nosiy (sounds like a diesal rattle) - this has been going on for some time - intially it was only noisy for the matter of a few seconds then suddenly would return to a normal engine note which is much quiter. Now its lasting for longer circa 30sec but i have just found out that if I turn the engine off after a few seconds then start up again the noise disappears or is much subdued. I've only done about 40K.

any ideas what might be causing it ? - hope its not anything major  - just recently had to fork out for new ignition coil and leads after breaking down with a misfire

thanks for your time

Hello darlo, and welcome to the Yeti site.

First, have you checked your oil level.

Second, when was your oil last changed.

When you start up, do you rev the engine? If so don't. Oil needs to circulate before you rev it.

Also when switching off, do not rev the engine, just switch off, at idle.

I say this as only yesterday I was in a car park & a driver revved his engine & turned off the ignition at the same time....why?

Welcome to the forum.

Maybe have a search for the Timing Chain / Tensioner Issues with 1.2 TSI engines,

the threads should be easy to find, it not only affects the Yeti but other Skoda Models.

Given the history of timing chain problems with 1.2 TSi engines of your vintage,  and as this could be a timing chain issue,  its very important that you get it looked at without delay.  The very last thing you want is for the timing chain to fail,  or jump a tooth, as this will wreck the engine.  If you've had it from new you will know whether modified timing components have been fitted... if you bought second hand then a Skoda dealer may be able to find out.  Either way it needs prompt action.

Both the number 3 high tension plug lead/coil

And

The timing chain were subject to a factory recall

Determine if both were done as, being an acknowledged fault, should still be arguable.

Out here, recalls are recorded on the lower A pillar driver's door hinge area.

Re the plug lead, ensure it is insulated and routed away from the turbo's heat.

We need a 'logarithm' that identifies

1.2

Timing chain

Plug/coil lead

With auto-generated recall note.

It seems that would eliminate so many repeat questions.

)))))

I think you mean algorithm.
