anti freeze

Featured Replies

So the car apparently had a service and brake fluid change prior to collection but just checking the fluid today and it clearly need anti freeze as it's near the bottom of the bottle.

This is pink/red colour. Can I just pick up some pink stuff at halfords or are there different types of the pink version.

Thanks

Wait.

Near the bottom of the bottle.   Is that above MIN and below MAX?

Then watch and see if that is where it stays after full operating temperature, and then back to cold.

If there was a 'Fill to this Level',   that would be on the Reservoir / Filler Bottle.

Buy the correct Fluid but do not put it in if the Level is above MIN and not moving,

many Servicing Technicians top up to near MAX the fluid, and by the time you get the vehicle home the level is back towards MIN.

As it often is on many vehicles.

IF you do want more G13 Coolant in, you paid the Servicing Garage for Fluid Checks and top ups,

or someone did, so call back in there and have them do the ickle fluid top up.

PS

They should not just check the Fluid Level, but the Coolants Strength / Ratio,

Full Health Check Report type stuff.  Winter Time and all that.

If by "bottle" you mean the coolant expansion tank,  then the level should not be too high up it..... the minimum level should be clearly marked....  to allow for expansion .  Filling it to the top will only result in the excess being expelled into your engine bay.

Edit: GoneOffskiroottoot beat me to it even as I was typing!

Is the coolant near the min line or where the weld seam is if it is this is normal if you fill you max mark it will just blow out of the overflow

well it about 1cm from the bottom and you can see the 2 wires inside showing. I am hoping it's just where they changed the cambelt prior to purchase (hoping they changed the waterpump to) and there has been air in the system. Can't be bothered to go back unless there is an issues as way to much hard work.

So looking deeper and it's about 1cm down from the minimum. The min and max mark is much lower down than my old monty. I could probably just top that up with water but would like to know what I should be buying other than from the Skoda dealer.

Looking at the manual it say G12 plus plus and says it's purple but it looks more pink to me. (I have attached a pic)

Can anyone advise.

Thanks

Do not add H20 if you are near the Dealership that serviced it,

get the Master Tech out to look at it, not the Workshop Manager of Salesperson or anyone else, the Organ Grinder for the Servicing,

not the Monkeys.

Have them put in the Coolant, and be sure you have the low coolant put on the Service Record.

Ask why the level was not above MIN after the Service.

You might have a Warranty Claim to make soon.

It sounds like after a belt change its 'burped a bubble' and it just needs a top-up.

It's the pink stuff commonly used and the container will have the specs on it - just add ...cold.....on the flat....to the max....n bob's yr fathers brother.

Meant to mention, a handy tool to have is an anti freeze tester. the one I've got is a device with a tube you insert into the coolant and bulb you squeeze that draws the coolant up to immerse a 'clockface' with the reading giving the freezing point......nice to know.
